North men dominate Titanic

On a baking hot day probably not condusive to PBs North Belfast had a large contingent of 18 runners of all ages taking part in the Titanic Quarter 10k. This was a successful day all round with the men winning just about every single age group as well as the team prize and the two girls coming 2nd open and 1st age group.

Pre race favourite Stephen Scullion started as he meant to go on and led from the gun to cruise to victory in an impressive 30:47 while even finding time to blow kisses into the crowd.

Alan O’Hara, who has been showing impressive form of late, went out just behind Joe McAllister and Diarmuid Grant and held onto that position to come in fourth after a big battle with Eamon White who finished an impressive fifth to seal the mens team prize(comfortably).

Conor Curran was next up in tenth in 34:09 with impressively even splits especially given the heat / wind.

Davy Brady, who claims not to be training too hard, on a welcome return to racing was next up in 21st, and 3rd male O45, with 35:55. Matt finished first O55 with 36:46 in 28th place. Breege Connolly came in 2nd in the womens race in 37:33 after a battle with Lauren Scott.

Lawrence Johnston had another strong race for 1st O50 in 37:38 with Jim Newburry finishing just behind for 2nd O55 in in 37:49. Cathy finished next up for 1st female O35 in 38:38 just pipping Greg (same time) who came in 2nd O50. Stephen Walker, John Patience and Malachy McKenna all came in under 40 minutes with 39:04, 39:13 and 39:22 respectively. Malachy finished third male junior.

Francie(McCaffrey) and Robert(Irvine) were next up in 41:17 and 42:00.

Mannix McAllister finished strongly in 49:34 with Desy Metrusty in 53:37.

Well done to all involved – a lot of effort was put in by both coaches and athletes for this race and it looks like it all paid off.
