Park Run 31

In the end, Spider Man overtook Big Banana but The Flying Scotsman finished strongest.

Park Run 31 on Saturday was the first “RUN FREE” event where participants of all ages were invited to come in Fancy Dress and boy did the people of Belfast respond !

A glorious sunny morning saw a record 195 Park Runners of all shapes, sizes, colour and costumes take part.

Embodying the community spirit of Park Run, it was fantastic to see so many people enjoy the Waterworks Park and the refreshments/cakes which were provided afterwards.

The positive spirit of the event seemed to rub off on the runners too, with plenty of personal bests being recorded.

At the top end of the field a dramatic late sprint by David Patton (17.25) edged out Brendan Grew (17.26).

Laurence Johnston (North Belfast Harriers) was third in 17.46 – an excellent course best and WAVA of 84.33% – ahead of rapidly improving club mate, Stephen Walker who recorded yet another personal best for 4th position in 17.49.
