It was a quiet weekend for racing with only the Roller Coaster Races in Downpatrick on the local calendar. But there was plenty of action at the Waterworks Park Run on Saturday, where Harriers Alan Ritchie and Claire Prenter led home the field of 162. Alan finished five seconds outside his PB in 17:29 and just over a minute ahead of second place finisher Brendan Grew, while Claire was the first woman in 20.52.
A Harrier also took the third slot with David Brady timing 18:34. Others among the 20-strong North Belfast contingent were Greg McClure (20.45), Lance Breen (20.47) and Gerry Gribbon (20.50). They were followed by Gerard McNamara (21.39), Robert Irvine (22.16), Kevin Lavery (22.27) and Damien Gill (22.29).
Others finishing under 24 minutes were Paul Williams (22.45), Kilian Woods (23.29), junior Mannix McAlister (23.49) and John Lavery (23.51). Next in were Matt Shields (25.12), Mary Ringland (26.07), William Beattie (26.22), Darragh McNairney (26.23), Jim Clinton (27.11) and Tina Haggan (31.09).
Roller Coaster Races
At the Roller Coaster races, a hilly off-road 5 km in Downpatrick, Greg McClure got in his second effort of the day, clocking 19.32 for 25th overall. Mark Shields was about a minute back in 20.30, good for 32nd.
Brendan Teer of East Down (15.50) and Patricia O’Hagan of St Peter’s (18.37) were the overall winners.
