Gladys wins at Jimmys 10k / weekend roundup


On Sunday the annual Jimmys 10k took place in Downpatrick – this was the first mass 10k of the year and a large number of harriers made the journey. There was to be a strong showing by all the harriers with 8 out of the top 20 coming from the club.

In the womens race Gladys Ganiel-O’Neill renewed her rivalry with Julie Turley and showed her marathon preparations are coming along well to win in 35:31 – 15 seconds ahead of Turley. Recent recruit Rosie Daly had a strong run to finish 5th woman and take the F35 prize in 41:19 while Amanda Perry continued her comeback to win the F40 category in 43:54.

In the mens there were lots of inter club rivalry among the harriers with some good battles going on. Eamon White was first up for 4th place in 33:06. Martin Rea had his first “short” race for a while having a good battle with Eddie Cooke to finish 6th in 34:34, winning him the M35 category, with Eddie just behind in 34:35.

Peter Savage, Jim Benson and Andrew Considine were next three harriers up battling it out for 10th, 11th and 12th respectively in 35:14, 35:18 and 35:18. This was a massive PB for Andrew. Stevie Walker finished 20th with a solid run in 37:10.

Gerard McNamara ran 40:29 for 48th with new recruit John Murphy had a large PB in his first race for the club to finish just behind in 40:34. Greg McClure won the 55 category in 41:30.

International XC

Sharon Bird had a super run in the home internationals cross country at Roukken Glenn Gifnock to finish 12th overall and first northern ireland runner in her race.


There were harriers in all the Belfast parkruns at the weekend with victories in both mens and womens runs.

In the waterworks Connor Magill recorded the second fastest time ever on the course for a new parkrun PB in 15:54. Alan Ritchie came close to his PB for 3rd in 17:00 while Conal McCambridge continued his development for 5th in 17:51 with Davy Brady just behind in 17:55. Paul Jenkins, Simon Reeve, Tony McNulty and John Patience were just behind in 18:10, 18:39, 18:44 and 18:51.

Claire Connor had a new PB to win the womens run in 19:05 just in front of Jim Newberry in 19:22. Greg McClure was 17th in 20:04 and Aidan O’Reilly ran 21:02. Killian Woods, Lance Breen, Damien Gill and Paul Williams were the next 4 harriers in 21:39, 21:41, 22:07 and 22:10. Ita McCambridge and Nuala Muldoon were 5th and 7th girls in 22:47 and 24:10.

Other harriers to take part and run well were Darragh McNairney, Mannix McAllister, Jim Clinton and Aaron McCann.

At Queens Gerard McNamara was 3rd in 19:08, Claire Prenter 2nd woman in 21:33 just ahead of vet Vincent Bradley who ran 21:37 beating old rival Kevin Lavery who ran 22:16.

Darryl Blair won the Victoria park parkrun in 16:34.

Rome marathon

In the Rome marathon Mark Shields had a great run to finish in 3:35 for a new marathon PB.
