Connor NI 5000m champion / busy weekend–Updated


Connor Magill picked up his most notable victory to date with a superb win in the NI / Ulster 5000m championship. An early break was made by a Foyle Valley runner with Connor sitting in the front pack biding his time. After the early pace settled Connor made his break and built a gap which, despite the best efforts of Declan Reed, was never to be caught. Connor won in a new PB of 14:58 – 5 seconds ahead of 2nd place. Alan Ritchie also ran to continue his good form for a new PB of 16:22.

Breege Connolly Runs New 10k PB at Dublin Mini Marathon

Breege Connolly continued her run of top class performances, setting a new personal best of 35.41 for 10k to finish fifth in Monday’s Dublin Women’s Mini Marathon. Breege has recently returned from a stint of warm weather training with Irish Olympic marathon runners Linda Byrne and Caitroina Jennings.

Byrne won the race in 33.29.

Newry City half / full marathon

In the annual Newry event the harriers had several athletes out in the half marathon with Greg competing in the full marathon.

In the half Eamon White was first harrier across the line for 4th in 1:14:12 with Michael Fitzpatrick and Andrew Considine having a good battle for 7th and 8th respectively. Michael finished in 1:17:56 with Andrew finishing in 1:18:39. Mark Shields had a good run for 75th in 1:31:07.

In the full marathon Greg McClure finished 13th in 3:06:58.

Stunnerz ‘n’ Runnerz

Cathy McCourt and Lisa Sturgeon made the journey to Magherafelt for the inaugural Sperrin Harriers Stunnerz ‘n’ Runnerz all womens race.

Cathy had a great run for her 2nd victory in a week to run 29:45 while Lisa ran her first race in a while and finished in 4th place with 32:37.

Edwards meet

Jimmy Nolan took a large contingent of young harriers to Antrim forum for the 3rd Edwards meet.

In the boys section Adam Lamb ran well for 2nd in the 150 metres and to take victory in the 1200 metres. Brendan McCambridge and Cian McGrath also ran well in the 1200 metres. Odhran Catney and Damien Marquess also ran in some of the boys events and competed well.

In the girls section Bryanna Catney, Amie Bradley, Ellie Bradley, Laila Murray, Cara Carson, Evanna Devine and Lauren Bell all competed well with the highlight being Amie finishing 3rd in the girls 800 metres.

In the 3000 metres Connor McQuillan was 3rd under 15 in 10:45.


With there being several park runs in Belfast now the harriers had victors in a number of events.

At the waterworks Darryl Blair cruised to victory in a new PB of 16:05. Davy Brady was next up for 5th running just outside his PB in 17:47 with John Murphy and Greg McClure having a good battle – John running 19:26 for 7th just ahead of Greg in 19:27. Young Tony McCambridge ran a new PB of 20:43.

Helen Weir won the ladies race running a new PB of 21:07. Other harriers to take part were Paul Williams (22:16), Matt Shields(22:21), Jack Carberry(new PB of 23:07), Mannix McAllister (23:15), John Burns(new PB 23:49), Jim Clinton(25:11), Darragh McNairney(26:02) and Aaron McCann(31:25).

Over at Queens Marty Rea won the mens run with Claire Prenter just being pipped in the womens with a new parkrun PB of 20:52.

At Victoria Park Eddie Cooke finished 2nd in 17:10 with Drew Crawford running 29:25.

Gregory Walsh won at the ecos parkrun in 17:36 with other harriers Connor McQuillan(5th– 19:25), James Wallace(6th – 20:09) and Paula Wallace (23:38) taking part.
