Magill wins Ards half / medals at NI masters track / weekend roundup

It was a busy week for the harriers with half marathons, five milers and NI track masters championships going on in addition to the usual series of parkruns across Belfast.

Ards Half marathon

In the Ards half marathon Connor Magill continued his fine form winning out in 1:10:38 taking victory by over a minute and a half with even Joe McAllister trailing in the distance.

Several other harriers had strong showings in the top ten with vet Alan McCullough finishing 3rd in 1:12:31, Michael Fitzpatrick 8th in 1:18:04 and Andrew Considine 9th in 1:18:58.

Simon Reeve finished 19th in 1:23:12 just ahead of Travis Todd in 21st running 1:23:46. Paddy Hamill had his first race in a long while for 32nd in 1:26:16 pipping Niall Farquarhson in 1:26:31.

Lisa Sturgeon had a strong race to finish 4th lady running bang on 1:30.

John McGuigan and Sean McShane had a good battle with John running 1:33:55 and Sean running 1:34:08 and Helen Weir had a good run clocking 1:40:03 with Garry McKinney running 1:44:30.

Special mention must also go to the pacers – Gareth Grew and Jim Benson paced the 1:30 group round in 1:29 and Stevie Walker paced the 1:45 group in 1:45:06.

NI masters track championships

In the NI masters track championship Paul Jenkins took silver in the M35  5,000 metre race running 18:02 and Greg McClure went for the shorter distance being the first M55 in 19:48.

Loughinisland 5.05 miler

Three harriers made the journey to Loughinisland on Wednesday night for the 5.05 miler in a challenging course with all three finishing in the top 20. Martin Rea took 2nd in 28:45, Niall Farquarhson 9th in 32:16 and Aidan O’Reilly 18th in 36:03.

Irish runner 5 mile and Waterford half marathon

Breege Connolly had a great race in the mass participation Irish runner 5 miler to take 2nd place in a fast 28:24. Eddie Cooke also competed and finish in 13th position overall in 27:10.

In waterford half marathon Athanasia Sevastaki ran a PB of 1.40.45 to finish 10th female.

parkrun

The usual large contingent of harriers took part across several Belfast parkruns on saturday with numbers a little down due to Ards half.

In the waterworks parkrun Martin Rea was the winner in 17:00, Jim Benson finished 2nd after his pacing exploits in Ards the night before in 17:26 with other harriers involved being: Matt Shields (6th) 19:05, Joe Norney (8th) 19:24, Lance Breen (9th) 19:26, John Murphy (11th) 19:41, Simon Reeve (12th) 19:48, Greg McClure(13th) 19:53,  Killian Woods (29th) 22:34, Adam Lamb (32nd in new PB) 23:12, Paul Williams (35th) 23:33, Jim Clinton (67th) 27:16 and Norman Patterson 98th in 36:52.

Across town at Queens Mark Sturgeon finished 4th in 20:17, Philip Donnelly 5th in 20:35 and Damien Gill 9th in 22:37.
