Girls crowned NI relay champions / weekend roundup

The success story of the weekend was the girls team who won the NI relay championships ran by Orangegrove AC at Victoria park. All three girls – Claire Connor, Judi Graham and Gladys Ganiel O’Neill –  had strong races with Claire and Judi running strong legs to set Gladys up in 3rd. Gladys then posted the 3rd fastest time of the day to win convincingly by 16 seconds.

Mens teams

The men had a good contingent of runners out with 18 individuals out and  4.5 teams with the teams finishing in 6th(Alan Ritchie, Conal McCambridge,Andrew Considine, Travis Todd), 10th(Paul Blaney,Neil Carty, Gareth Grew,Paul Jenkins ), 20th(Jim Newberry,Laurence Johnston, John Patience, Jim Benson) ,22nd(Gerry Gribben, Kent Swann,Greg McClure and Philip Donnelly) . Sean McShane and John Black also ran. All the guys had strong races with this distance being new to most – Andrew Considine and Paul Blaney ran particularly strong legs both finishing in the top 20 fastest with Andrew in 10:46 and Paul in 10:47. The vets A team narrowly missed out on a medal finishing a close 4th to North Down.

Junior success at relays

At victoria park the harriers also had a good contingent of juniors out.  .In the under 11s  Damian Marquess won with  Brendan Mc Cambridge 10th.In the nder 13 girls Amie Bradley finished 2nd with Ellie Bradlley also running  very well.In the  u13 boys Sean and Pias Mc Shane performed well on their harriers debut while in the under 15s Andrew Milligan finished 4th with Cathy Hare also 4th in the under 15 girls.

Runher 10k

In the mass participation Runher 10k taking place at stormont Breege Connolly had a runaway victory winning in 37:26 almost 2 minutes ahead of 2nd place.

Galway 10k

On Saturday Conor Curran and Gregory Walsh made the journey down to Galway for the Galway Bay 10k. Both men were running well and in the top ten when an unfortunate turn of events led to the front guys being sent the wrong direction. Both recovered well and after covering closer to 11k than 10k Conor finished up 4th in 36:20 with Gregory 8th in 37:09.

Slieve Gallion mountain race

Simon Reeve competed in the Slieve Gallion mountain race on Saturday finishing 6th in 46:15. This concluded a very successful season in the mountains for Simon where he completed the Hill and Dales series, the NIMRA championship series and the NIMRA grand prix series narrowly missing out on an international vest for his exploits.


The usual large contingent of harriers took part across the various parkruns on saturday. Over at the waterworks we had a large turnout with Lance Breen 8th in 19:37, Greg McClure 10th in 19:57, Matt Shields 11th in 20:17, John Murphy 13th in 20:37, Paul Williams 15th in 20:55, Patrick McCambridge(PB) 21st in 21:53, Killian Woods 29th in 23:20, Darragh McNairney 42nd in 24:30, John Burns 46th in 24:52, Nuala Muldoon 101st in 33:05 and Aaron McCann 103rd in 33:25.

Over at Victoria Park Paddy Hamill was 3rd in 18:59, at the Ecos under 14 Connor McQuillan was 3rd in 18:05, at falls Gerard McNamara was 4th in 22:00 with Jim Clinton 32nd in 40:21. At Queens John Lavery was 13th in 22:06.
