By signing up to run the Laganside 10k and joining Marie Curie’s Daffodil Team, runners raised vital sponsorship to fund more hours of Marie Curie Nursing Care for terminally ill patients in local communities as well as in the Marie Curie Hospice, Belfast.
A grand total of £2,493 was donated to Marie Curie Cancer Care; a combination of donations by the event organisers and sponsorship from those runners who specifically elected to run in support of Marie Curie. This figure will fund 125 hours of Marie Curie Caring Services; services that are offered free of charge to those with a terminal illness and their families.
Matt Shields of Laganside 10k visited the Marie Curie Hospice, Belfast this week and is photographed with Matt said “We wanted to have an event that was well organised and friendly to the social runners. We are extremely happy that in addition we have been able to raise significant funds for a good cause. A big thank you to all our participants who donated to Marie Curie.”
Suzy McIlveen, Regional Fundraisign Events Manager: “We thoroughly enjoyed the Laganside 10k, pom poms at the ready! Delighted that so many runners sought to raise sponsorship and support Marie Curie in this way. We’d like to extend a very big thank you to all involved with the Laganside 10k event; Matt Shields; his team and all those who ran and fundraised for Marie Curie Cancer Care.

The above is a press release from Marie Curie cancer care. As a club our intention has always been to have an event which is well organised and is open to social and competitive runners alike. We are delighted that in addition to this our event has enabled us to assist in raising money for such a good cause. Our thanks go out to all our participants who donated to Marie Curie and to all those who helped make our event a continued success.
