parkrun for christmas

With it being christmas weekend and the calendar being quiet the attentions of our runners turned to the parkrun this weekend with a global feel to it.

First up were the Shields family on their trip to Australia. In slightly sunnier climates than what were to be displayed later in Belfast Matt Shields finished 24th in 21:29,  daughter Gail 58th in 24:24 and established volunteer and wife Ruth running her first parkrun to finish 105th in 37:59.

Back at base in the waterworks there were possibly the wettest conditions the parkrun there has seen but this didn’t deter the usual contingent of harriers. Brendan Grew finished 2nd for a change in 17:56,  Lance Breen had his best run for a while to run 19:08 and finish 6th and Gerry Gribbon also finished top ten finishing 9th in 19:50.

Roisin Hughes continued her run of PBs for 3rd girl in 20:04 ahead of 2 other harriers John Murphy(13th) in 20:21 and Manix McAllister(14th) running a new PB of 20:49. Greg McClure finished 16th in 20:59 .

John Burns and Nuala Muldoon followed up with new PBs of 22:30 and 22:55 for 26th and 29th respectively with John Johnston finishing just behind Nuala to run 22:59.

Killian Woods and John O’Hare finished 40th and 41st in 24:56 and 25:17 respectively and young Aaron McCann ran 33:46 for 66th.

Connor Magill continued his monopoly of the citypark parkrun winning in 16:20 – over a minute ahead of the next runner.

At the Falls parkrun Gladys Ganiel-O’Neill continued her form of late to win outright in 18:28 – breaking the womens course record in the process and beating the next runner by exactly a minute. Jim Clinton ran his 92nd parkrun to finish 4th in 24:18.
