Breege wins bronze at inter counties
At the inter counties XC in Tullamore Offaly Breege Connolly had a great race to finish third behind established internationals Mary Cullen and Lynda Byrne. Breege finished in 29:21 – 7 seconds ahead of 4th place.
Alan victorious and Claire 2nd at stormont
At stormont on saturday the last round of the NI XC league took place on the trails with the grounds at stormont being unable to host the XC. The mens team had a bumper turnout of 18 and the womens had one of their best turnouts to date fielding 5 runners.
In the mens race the league prize was up for the grabs. Alan O’Hara had a great race and led from start to finish winning by 13 seconds from 2nd place. Three other harriers were to make the top ten with Andrew Considine finishing 7th, Ed Cooke 9th and Paul Blaney 10th completing the team scoring. This gave the team 27 points but this was unfortunately not enough to defeat City of Derry who won with 25 points securing the league title in the process.
Just behind Paul Neil Carty finished 11th with the next 2 harriers across the line being Simon Reeve 22nd and Eoin McQuillan 24th. Laurence Johnston(33rd), Peter Morrison (40th) , Stevie Walker(42nd), Mark McKinstrey(44th) and Paul Jenkins(46th) all made the top 50 with Philip Wallace finishing just outside in 51st.
Robert Irvine made the top 70 in 69th while just behind Jim Newberry and Gerry Gribbon battled it out for 74th and 75th respectively. Mark Shields finished 82nd pipping Tony McNulty who was 85th in his comeback from injury. Greg McClure just missed the top 100 finishing in 102nd.
In the womens race with 3rd up for grabs in the league Claire Connor made the front running taking the early lead but being caught in the 2nd lap to finish in 2nd place. Roisin Hughes was next up continuing her good form for 14th, Athanasia Sevastaki 30th, Jenny Bill 33rd, Paula Wallace 45th and Nuala Muldoon 47th. Springwell won the womens prize taking 3rd place in the league in the process.
Connor wins / Damien 2nd in juniors
In the under 15s Connor McQuillan had a great race winning out in 10:01 11 seconds ahead of 2nd place. In the primary school boys race Damien Marquess had a great race finishing 2nd with Brendan McCambridge also having a good race. In the girls race Bryanna Catney and Maria McDaid ran well.
Queens parkrun celebrated it’s first anniversary on saturday. Several harriers attended and up front Matt Shields and Philip Donnelly had a good battle for 5th and 6th in 19:38 and 19:40 respectively. The Lavery brothers also took part – Kevin finishing in 28th (22:43) and John 32nd(23:05).
Special mention must also go to Philip Donnelly who has been a regular attender at the Queens parkrun. Philip has ran 37 times over the year running several PBs in the process and directed the race several times. Philip won the mens points prize for the year.
At the waterworks there was the usual large contingent of harriers and the usual result of a Brendan Grew victory in 16:54. Michael Fitzpatrick finished 2nd in 17:07 while Kent Swann and Gerry Gribbon also finished top ten for 6th (18:34) and 10th (18:49). John Murphy was 11th in 18:52. Both Gerry and John ran new PBs continuing their PB run of late.
Lance Breen made the top 20 for 18th in 20:13 with Mannix McAllister finishing 30th in 21:35. Other harriers taking part were Jack Carberry (41st – 22:48), Sean McShane(50th – 23:46), Piaras McShane(51st – 23:47), John Burns (54th – 24:00), John O’Hare(64th-25:33) , Morgan McCann(98th- 34:23), Aaron McCann (109th- 44:23).
At Victoria Greg McClure ran his first race of the day for 18th in 24:07 while Paul Williams just missed his PB in 21:44.
