Rea 5th in Ultra & Blaney Top at City Parkrun as Snow Stops most Weekend Action

waterworks snow The snow put a stop to most of the weekend action across Northern Ireland, with all of the Belfast Parkruns cancelled as well as the much-anticipated Larne Half Marathon.

But the Wicklow Way Ultra Marathon (51km) went ahead, with the Harriers’ Marty Rea braving the tough conditions to finish fifth in 4:58:08. The course, which traversed the Wicklow Mountains, featured an overall climb of nearly 2000 metres and was mucky and snowy.

Two Harriers were in action at the relatively snow-free City Parkrun in Craigavon, where Paul Blaney (16.54) and Alan Ritchie (18.21) claimed the top two positions.

Let’s hope that the roads, trails and parks thaw out in the coming days!
