Les Jones 10k / Weekend roundup

The Les Jones 10k on Friday night was the main attraction of the weekend with large numbers of harriers turning out and putting in some good showings.

Up at the front Alan O’Hara had a great battle unfortunately just losing out in the end to finish 2nd.  Andrew Considine continued his good form for a comfortable 4th while there was good packing in the top ten with Eddie Cooke taking 7th followed by Eoin McQuillan and Simon Reeve who battled it out finishing 8th and 9th respectively. Not too far behind and making up the top 20 were Marc Jennings showing a return to form for 14th closely followed by Mark McKinstry, who’s been running well of late, in 15th.

Sean McShane had a strong run for 34th closely followed by Aaran Ruttledge in 36th.  Mark Shields made the top 50 in 47th with Fra McCaffrey just outside in 52nd. Greg McClure and Martin Cox followed close behind for 55th and 58th respectively. Athanasia Sevastaki showed she’s in good form for her upcoming marathon debut finishing 5th lady and Paddy McShane finished 79th.

It must be noted that due to a marshalling error approximately 400 metres were left off the course hence times not being included.

Newry 10k

Eamon White won the Newry 10k on Thursday night in 32:10 winning by over 30 seconds.

parkrun

The usual large contingent of harriers took part in parkruns all over Ireland with Matt Shields starting the Castle Demesne parkrun in Clonakilty Cork and finishing 2nd in the process in 18:56.

At Craigavon Alan Ritchie showed good form to win in 17:07 while over in East Belfast Mark Shields finished 18th in 20:11 and Drew Crawford ran 33:31. At the Falls Kent Swann returned with a bang from marathon duty for his first parkrun victory in 18:48 with parkrun regular Jim Clinton running 23:12.

Greg McClure made the journey to Cookstown for their opening parkrun finishing 9th after Friday night’s exploits in 21:01.

At Queens Philip Donnelly had his last parkrun pre wedding for 8th place in 20:04. Helen Weir finished 14th in 21:36, secretary Jenny Bill 18th in 22:17 and Ciaran Hunter 31st in 24:54.

Over at the waterworks John McGuigan continued his good form of late and took his first parkrun victory in 17:39.  The top ten had more harriers – Laurence Johnston 3rd(18:04), Simon Reeve 4th (18:11) and Gerry Gribbon 10th (20:11).  John Murphy finished 18th (21:11), Martin Cox 21st(21:24), Paul Williams 27th(22:02), John Johnston47th(23:58), John Burns 76th(26:01), Aaron McCann 116th(29:30), Kilian Woods 124th(30:49) and Jason Reid 152nd (38:43).
