This week saw the official launch of the 2013 Laganside 10km which takes place on Sunday 1st September, 2pm at Ormeau Park, Belfast. Pictured at this year’s launch are Lord Mayor of Belfast Máirtín Ó
Muilleoir with North Belfast Harriers runners Kent Swann, twins Sean and Parias McShane with their younger brother Patrick.
Commenting on this year’s race, Lord Mayor Ó Muilleoir said:
“The Laganside 10km is regarded as one of the best races in Belfast and every year draws over 1000 runners of all abilities. I am delighted to officially launch the event and am particularly pleased to see North Belfast Harriers add a Children’s 1 mile event to the day’s programme.
This will really make it a great family day out in Belfast and attract children and families trying to fund raise for the Northern Ireland Children’s Hospice.”
Ideally situated in the running calendar, the Laganside 10km is the perfect “tune up” race for those considering running in the Belfast and/or Waterside Half Marathons in September.
In a bid to get more youngsters involved in running and healthy lifestyle choices, this year’s Laganside programme will feature a new Children’s 1 mile event for boys and girls aged 6-15.
This event will take place at 1.30pm and takes place on a safe, marshalled and flat route within Ormeau Park.
With entrance fees at only £3 and guaranteed goody bags and medals for all children, this new addition represents great value for money.
Times for all children will be recorded but the focus of the 1 mile event is on fun and participation so mums or dads will be allowed to run alongside younger competitors if they wish.
Runners for all events can now enter online at www.laganside10km.com – races fees are £10 (ANI registered runners), £12 (unregistered or fund raising runners) and £3 for the children’s race.
If readers have any queries fund raising or the events, they are encouraged to post messages on the Official Laganside 10km Facebook page or to the North Belfast Harriers Twitter account (@nbharriers).
