Weekend Roundup: Mark McKinstry Top on the Trail

It was a relatively quiet weekend on the racing front but there were some noteworthy performances from Harriers nonetheless.

Sperrin Harriers Winter Race Series 10km

mckinstrytrailPerformance of the weekend goes to Mark McKinstry for his win in the Sperrin Harriers Winter Race Series (Event 3 – 10km trail race).

Mark was in an exciting battle with Michael Crawley of host club, Sperrin Harriers, for most of the distance but pulled away in the late stages for the win in 35.49.

This win is the second in the series for Mark, who won the shorter 5k event in December, again from Michael Crawley.

Gosford Forest 10km

weirBorn 2 Run Events hosted the popular Gosford 10km in Armagh at the weekend. Helen Weir placed sixth among the women on the mucky course (45.39) while Paul Gruhn ran 50.28. Friend of the club Mark Ramsey finished the tough forest circuit in 52.41.

With little cross country action this weekend, quite a few harriers took to Parkruns around GB and NI with some venturing into new territory in Cornwall, Fulham and Walsall.

Adam Boyd showed that his heavy period of training is paying off with an easy victory and course record at Ormeau Park on Saturday morning. Adam won in a time of 16.14.

At Belfast Victoria parkrun, Ed Cooke finished 3rd in 19.12. At Craigavon, Ray Cameron came in at 20.35 while in Cornwall, Marian Hayes finished in 26.43.

At Falls Park, Vincent Bradley ran 24.09 and Jim Clinton ran 29.49 while Paul Williams used a weekend break in London to run the Fulham Palace Parkrun in a respectable 21.12.

At Queens Parkrun, Ciaran Hunter ran 22.03 while Malachy McKenna (24.10) and Thomas McKinstry (29.29) also ran.

In Lisburn, John McConnell ran well to record 18.54 and second place while in Walsall, Derek Donaghy was 8th in 19.17.

Finally, at the Waterworks, Brendan Grew was second in 17.15, followed closely by Michael Fitzpatrick (17.24) and a host of other harriers:
