Weekend Roundup: Mark McKinstry Wins Gold & Silver

mckinstry ballyboleyIt was a good weekend for off-road running and trail stalwart Mark McKinstry headlined club performances with a win on Saturday at the Sperrin Harriers Winter League and a second place finish on Sunday at the NIrunning.co.uk Trail Race.

The Sperrin Harriers event was a five-miler at An Creggan, which McKinstry won in 27.32. On Sunday he was a solid second over five miles in Ballyboley Forest, clocking 26.34 to Jonny Steede’s 25.59. The run in Ballyboley was the first trail race organised by the popular nirunning.co.uk website, and got rave reviews from participants.

Other good performances at Ballyboley came from Simon Reeve (sixth in 28.53 and first in the V35 category), Nuala Muldoon (38.05) and Hannah Funnell (38.25).

Amanda Perry Second in Comber Cup

The ever-popular Comber Cup cross country was held on Saturday, with Amanda Perry recording an excellent 24.46 for second on the women’s 6 km circuit. Helen Weir was 12th in 27.15.

In the men’s 8 km contest, Neil Carty finished fourth in 28.27. He was supported by Laurence Johnston (30.57) and Greg McClure (35.19).

Jim Clinton Does the Double at Clonakilty

jclintonbmJim Clinton competed well in the Clonakilty Back2Back Marathon event in Co. Cork on Saturday and Sunday, running 4.13 on day one and 4.20 on day two over hilly terrain.

Parkruns

There were plenty of Harriers out for the usual Parkruns. Super-vet Drew Crawford set a personal best at the Queen’s Parkrun (28.18), while Thomas McKinstry bagged a personal best in the Falls (29.52). Michael Fitzpatrick was first home at the Waterworks in 17.39.
