Simon Reeve has a Busy Weekend; Weekend Roundup

simonreeveIt was a relatively quiet weekend for racing, although the Harriers were out hitting the roads and trails. Among the highlights were Simon Reeve’s first place finish at Sunday’s Resolution Run 10k in Craigavon Lakes and second place finish at Saturday’s well-regarded Roe Valley Trail race in Limavady. In Craigavon he ran 37.19 in the event organised by the Stroke Association Charity. In Roe Valley, he trailed home only City of Derry stalwart Alan Bogle, who timed 27.31 to Simon’s 30.04. He also managed to squeeze in Saturday’s Waterworks Parkun, timing 18.21 for third overall.

Brian Geddis competed in the V40 category in Roe Valley and clocked 35.57.

Veteran Greg McClure also had a busy weekend on the roads in England as he continued his preparations for next month’s London Marathon.  Saturday he ran as a guest in the Victoria Park Harriers 20 mile  champs, finishing in 2:25. On Sunday in  Finchley he completed a 20 miler in 2:22.

At the Glaslough 5k, Paul Blaney had a strong run to take fourth in 16.24. At the Addiction 10k in Ormeau Park in Belfast, Paul Horan finished sixth in 36.49, and at the Carmen 10k in Carrickmore, Omagh, Martin Cox turned in a solid run of 40.12.

Parkruns

There were 44 Harriers out at various Parkruns. Parkrun Ireland Coordinator Matt Shields was on hand for the first Parkrun in Castlebar, Co. Mayo, and crossed the line second overall in 18.59.

The Harriers had the first runner home in four more Parkruns, including Connor McQuillan (Ecos) 18.23, Gladys Ganiel O’Neill (Falls) 18.06, Conor Curran (Ormeau) 16.48, and Laurence Johnston (Waterworks) 17.54.

At the Waterworks, personal bests were recorded from Paul Curley, Joe Drain, Damian Marquess, Rioghnach Catney, John Robert Johnson, Jason Reid, Lauren Cox, Bryanna Catney, and Sharron Sykes. There were further personal bests from junior athletes Dominique McAllister, Cian McGrath, Aine Drain, Lucia McGibbon, Sinead O’Rawe and Ciara O’Rawe. Katie McCambridge and Aine Browne also completed the Waterworks Parkrun.
