Masters at Cross Country

On Saturday the British Masters Cross Country was held in Glasgow. The club sent over a top team in the form of Paul Elliott, Laurence Johnston and Jim Newberry and John Patience to compete in the M55 category and M45 categories of the competition. Laurence was the first of the M55 team to cross the line in a 47th position overall followed closely by Paul Elliott in 53rd enough to claim a third place finish in the M60 category and Jim Newberry in 91st. This combination of finishes was enough for the team to claim a 2nd place finish in the team M55 category in the prestigious event. John Patience also had a good performance finishing in 66th position.

gladysjimmyJimmys 10k

The main event of the weekend was the annual Jimmys 10k event in Downpatrick held on Sunday. This would arguably be the first 10k of the year and always proves to draw in a large field of quality runners. The club did not disappoint and a large contingent of Harriers made the journey to compete. Gladys Ganiel O’Neil put in an excellent performance to finish in 1st position in the ladies category in a time of 36:46 and 18th overall. In the mens category Eamon White was the first across the line in 6th position in a time of 33:07. Eamon was followed by Eddie Cooke in 10th position in a time of 34:37. Drew Knox was the next club member through the gate in 42nd position in 39:32 followed by Greg McClure in 57th in 40:04, Amanda Perry 69th in 40:49, Joseph Drain 80th in 41:17, Phillip Donnelly 82nd in 41:23, and finally John Murphy 97th in 42:00.

Glenarriff Mountain Race

Niell Carty continues his good form over the difficult mountain course on Saturday with a 3rd place finish in the competitive race also claiming 1st in the male 45 category. Neil was joined with in form Mark McKinstry who finished in 8th position and also Simon Reeve in 26th.

adamMagherafelt 10k

Also on Saturday three Harriers turned out in support for the newly established Magherafelt Harriers in their 10k event. Adam Boyd won the race with a strong performance finishing in 1st in 33:58 finishing a minute clear of the next competitor. Paul Blaney made it two harriers on the podium with a 3rd place finish in a time of 35:09. Mark McCallion was the final Harrier in the 150+ strong field finishing 26th position in a time of 40:09.

Dune Half Marathon

The point to point half marathon left in reverse direction this year starting in Newry and finishing in Dundalk, opening the Pure Running-ChampionChip Half Marathon Series. John McConnell a prize winner in last years competition completed the tough course in a time of 1:25:50 for 18 position overall.

Kilomathon 6.55k

John McGuigan managed to sneak a race in while on a small getaway by competing in the Kilomathon 6.5k in Edinburgh. John completed the course along the cycle paths in 24:05 to claim top honours in the race.

Club News

Congratulation to Conal McCambridge on being selected for the Home Countries Cross Country International in Nottingham (England) on Saturday 22nd March 2014. Conal will be competing in the U20 category of the competition.

Parkrun

Eight PBs for club members this week with over 37 members taking part despite the busy weekend. Special mention for our junior members Tony McCambridge, Damien John Marquess, Conor O’Rawe and Piaras McShane on their PBs.
