YOUNG HARRIERS COMPETE IN NEW EVENTS

Chain Reaction Cycle Hills 3k Race

Two new events were added to the junior’s event calendar at the weekend. The first was a tough 3k race which covered the first section of the Chain reaction Cycles Hills race from Boys Model Secondary School to the Belfast Castle. Eighteen young Harriers were joined by three runners from Beechmount.  In the U12 age group the boys race was won by Fionn Nagle followed by Cian McGrath and Pearce Short, and the girls race was won by Laruen Cox followed by Lucia McGibbon  and Aiofe Dunlop. Tony McCambridge was first over the line in the U14 boys race followed by Thomas Reid and Damian Marquess.  The oldest age group saw the U17’s battle it out with Harry Brewster finishing ahead of Andrew Milligan and Conor O’Rawe in the boys race and Rioghnach Catney finished the course ahead of Raoisle Hoy and Ciara Neilan in the girls race.

Aquathlon

Monday night saw the club compete in its first aquathlon in RBAI School organised in partnership with Invictus Swimming club. The event consisted of a swim in the swimming pool followed by a run around the school after a fast transition. Five children competed in the 50m swim and 350m run in the U13 age group. The race was won by Fionn Nagle in a time of 4.05 followed by the first girl Lauren Cox in 4.47, Cian McGrath 3rd 4.50, Orla Magee 4th 5.03 and the youngest competitor on the night Erin Harding 5th 5.34. The U15 age group were next into the pool for a 100m swim and an 1100m run. The race was won by Tony McCambridge in a time of 6.13 followed by Damian Marquess in 4th 6.41, Julia Uprichard 6th 7.12, Odhran Catney 7th 7.31 and Dominique McAllister 8th 8.43.
