Young Harriers Travel to Co Cavan

KelvinNi & Ulster Children’s Games

June each year sees the NI & Ulster Championships split into four meetings and day one saw the youngest age groups travel to Shercock, Co Cavan to compete in the children’s games. The day began with the 4 x 100m relays. Of the four teams entered by the club 3 qualified for their respective finals. The U13 girls, Bryanna Catney, Lauren Cox, Orla Magee and Rebecca Wallace, U12 girls Lucia McGibbon, Charlotte Willis, Catriona Morris and Emer Privilege and the U10 boys Callum Savage, Eoin Privilege, Niall Kerr and Patrick Willis all ran fantastically well to finish is 8th place considering many of them had never held relay batons before. The next event of day was the sprints. In the U9 60m race Callum Savage was 7th and Eoin Privilege 9th. In the U10’s 60m Harry Bassett was 18th, Patrick Willis 23rd, Malachy McGibbon 31st and Niall Kerr 38th in the boys section and Eimear Mullan was 33rd in the girl’s race. Next to the start line for the 60m were the U11’s. Kelvin Kearney had a fantastic race to win bronze and his first Ulster medal. In the corresponding girls race Lucia Mcgibbon came agonisingly close to bronze finishing in fourth place by less than one tenth of a second. Jamie Graham also had a good race finishing in a time of 11.46. When the sprints finally finished the longer races began. In the U9 300m Callum Savage finished 11th. In the u10 500m Niall Kerr came 23rd. In the U11 age group Kelvin Kearney then followed up his earlier 3rd place with 7th place in the 500m boy’s race, and Lucia McGibbon was 13th and Erin Harding 27th in the girl’s race. Four young Harriers lined up for the U12 600m. Charlotte Willis finished 22nd and Emer Privilege was 24th in the girls race, and in the boys race Cian McGrath was 18th and Rory Mullan was 22nd. Finally it was the turn of the 6 runners in the U13 age group. In the girls race Rebecca Wallace had a brilliant race to finish in 10th place, with Lauren Cox, Bryanna Catney and Orla Magee finishing in 16th, 25th and 27th places respectively. In the boys race Fionn Nagle had a fantastic race to finish in 6th place and Brendan McCambridge finished 20th. In the long jump Eoin Privilege was 13th in the U9 boys, Malachy Mcgibbon was 30th in the u10 boys, Eimear Mullan was 36th in the U10 girls, Catriona Morris, Jamie graham and Erin Harding were 20th, 29th and 37th respectively in the U11 girl’s event. In the U12 girls Emer Privilege finished 35th and Charlotte Willis finished 44th and in the U12 boys Patrick McShane finished 31st, Rory Mullan 34th and Adam Thompson finished 35th. In the U13 age group Fionn Nagle finished 11th in the boys section and Lauren Cox and Bryanna Catney 22nd and 29th respectively in the girl’s section. With the running and jumping finished it was time for throwing.  Patrick McShane finished 6th, Cian McGrath 15th and Adam Thompson 16th in the U12 shot putt and Brendan McCambridge finished 8th In the U13 javelin competition. All of the coaches and officials at the club would like to commend all our children for their impeccable behaviour during the long 9 hour event.
