Meanwhile, over at the Groomsport Half Marathon & 10k

Another group of Harriers were running the undulating country roads in similarly dry and breezy conditions. The Half Marathon consisted of two laps looping inland from, and returning to Groomsport whilst the 10k was one lap of the scenic course. Setting off at 7pm the Half Marathon field was led by a small group that included Nat Glenn and Simon Reeve. Fifteen minutes later the 10k started and amongst the field were Harriers Kent Swann, Stephen Walker and Amanda Perry who all performed well over the demanding course. Kent finished in 2nd place in 37:35 and Stephen took 4th spot in 38:19. Amanda however finished well clear in the ladies race to take 1st place in 42:14.

Now on their second loop of the Half Marathon course, the field had spread out but the running was still competitive as Harriers raced into the headwind towards the finish. Nat Glenn was first Harrier home in 01:20:05 for 4th place. Simon Reeve finished in 5th with 01:22:06 whilst Sean McShane took 7th place in 01:23:38. Finishing inside the top 20 were; Martin Cox 12th in 01:26:03, Gerard McNamara 14th in 01:26:14 and Colin Simpson 18th in 01:27:46. Groomsport was also the penultimate race of the 2014 Half Marathon Series and consistent running throughout the year has placed a number of Harriers in the overall standings. Penny Lindsay and Ita McCambridge are leading their respective categories as are Michael Fitzpatrick, Nat Glenn and Marc Jennings. Also featuring are Martin Cox, Colin Simpson, Greg McClure and Thomas McKinstry.
