Rea performs on world stage in Doha

A field of 200 runners took to the course of the 100K IAU World Championships on Friday 21 November in Doha, among them the club’s own Marty Rea, representing Ireland.  Coming through the 50k marker in a time of 5.43.39, he ran in humid conditions to complete the 100k in a time of 7.50.38 and an excellent finishing spot of 52nd.


British & Irish Masters Cross Country, Wollarton Park, Nottingham

Paul Elliott took first place in the V60 men’s 8k race in Nottingham, coming in for top spot in a time of 29.10, and helping Ireland claim the team bronze.  In the same race, Jim Newberry came finished in a time of 32.54 and claimed 18th position.  In the men’s V55-59 Laurence Johnston finished in a very credible 11th place in 29.15, with John Patience on his heels in 19th place in a time of 31.16.   The ladies L40 race saw Cathy McCourt flying high and claiming 6th spot in a time of 22.35 (and winning silver in the team medals) and Amanda Perry claimed 19th position in 24.20.

Benidorm Half Marathon

North Belfast Harriers’ own Thomas McKinstry travelled to Benidorm for the annual half marathon.   In a hard course in overcast and clammy conditions, the threatened rain stayed off for Mr McKinstry to finish in a time of 2 hours and 3 minutes, knocking 12 minutes off last year’s time.


GloHealth AAI Senior and Inter-County XC Championships

On Sunday 23 November a selection of athletes made their way to Dundalk to participate in these championships, which places in European championships up for grabs.  In the U20 category, Antrim go their first medal, a silver, helped along by the performance of Conal McCambridge, who finished 18th with a time of 20.50 (Junior Men).   The race of the day, the senior mens, was run over a 10k route in soft and muddy conditions.  Mark McKinstry and Adam Boyd both scored points to get the bronze for County Antrim, with Adam finishing in 49th (33:58), Mark finishing in 52nd place (34.04), Alan O’Hara 63rd (34.48). Andrew Considine 64th (34.48) and Andrew Annett (for Down) 73rd (35.16).
