Weekend Roundup: Multiple PBs for Harriers

It was a relatively quiet weekend for the Harriers but wherever they were in action, they came through with some fine performances. Among the most notable were personal bests for Mark McKinstry over 5 miles and Breege Connolly over 5 km.

Mark McKinstry made the trek to the Raheny 5 Miler in north Dublin on Sunday, and it paid off as he smashed his personal best with a time of 25.56, an improvement of 37 seconds, finishing 18th in a competitive field. Cathy McCourt finished first in the V40 category and 12th among women in 29.52.

Two other Harriers recorded personal bests, including Paul Horan in 28:25 — 72 seconds (73rd place) and Rory Kane — 20 seconds (30:50).

Breege Connolly Runs 17.02 in Ballyshannon

At the Streets of Ballyshannon 5k on Saturday, Breege Connolly ran away with the women’s race, posting a personal best time of 17.02 for the distance. She also was second overall in the race.

Callum McIlroy wins 2nd race in East Coast XC race Series

In the East Coast Cross Country Race Series, Callum McIlroy captured the 2100m junior boys with a time of 10.01, following up on his victory at Sandy Bay two weeks ago.

Fermanagh XC

The Northern Ireland and Ulster Cross Country League continued at Nescarne Estate in Fermanagh on Saturday. Veteran Martin Cox was the Harriers’ lone representative, completing the course in 29.27 for 45th overall.

Gosford 10k

Simon Reeve captured 19th place (2nd V35) in the challenging Born 2 Run Gosford 10k forest race in Markethill, running the circuit in 40.45. Padraigin Bingham finished in 1.16.48

Philip Donnelly Runs 100th Parkrun

The highlight of the Saturday Parkruns was at Queen’s, where Philip Donnelly completed his milestone 100th run. While various Parkruns were cancelled due to ice, a number of Harriers still took part:
