Winning weekend for the Ladies

Stormont XC

The Stormont cross-county race on Saturday 31 January saw a good turnout for the Harriers in both the junior and senior runs.   The seniors and Vet race saw a packed field take to the start line in perfect conditions.  The athletes had to negotiate a sharp left turn almost immediately at the start, followed by a sharp right hand turn to start everyone on the laps – two for women, three for the men.  Cathy McCourt displayed her dominance from the very beginning in the ladies’ field, leading from the front and never challenged.   By the time she came around for her second lap, her lead had grown and there was no doubt at all that she would come in in first place, as she did in a time of 21.03, nearly a minute and a half clear of the second female.     Others who took part in the race were:  (ladies) Janice Plum, 14th in 23.13;; Trisha Campbell, 16th in 23.30 and Helen Weir, 25.04.  (Men) Greg Lavery 27th in 30.14; Thomas Simmons, 32nd in 30.25; Paul McAllister, 40th in 31.01′ Laurence Johnston, 49th in 31.42 (winner in age category); Philip Donnelly, 74th in 33.07 and Greg McClure, 114th in 36.07.
