North Belfast Talent at Tuam

This weekend saw the AAI Intermediate and Master XC event take place in Tuam in County Galway and a plethora of the clubs finest athletes made the journey to compete in this prestigious event. It was a long journey that was not regretted as each and every member of the travelling team managed to return home with silverware in their pockets.  Cathy McCourt who has had a very successful XC season so far collected the first medal of the day for the club when she competed in the masters ladies 4000m race. Cathy completed the course in 15:50 enough to secure 3rd place overall and 1st in the master v40 category.

Alan O’Hara was the first across the line in 14th place followed closely by Eamon White in 18th place with Andrew Considine and Tommy Simmons completing the scoring foursome in 23rd and 60th place respectively. This performance was enough for the team to secure 2nd position behind a very talented Donore Harriers team. Matt Shields and Paul Elliot made up the remaining members of the Masters team and although were not part of the scoring team they will not be too disappointed as both men managed to pick up an individual medal in the the v60 category. Matt took the top position completing the course in 27:11 and 84th position overall followed by Paul Elliot who took second place with a finish time of 27:59 for 111th overall.

Rollercoaster 5k

With the road season coming back online, two Harriers looked to get some race sharpness in early this year by taking part in the East Down AC Rollercoaster 5k. Paul Blaney was one such Harrier and he completed the course in a time 17:34 enough to secure 3rd place behind Brendan Teer and David O’Flaherty. Greg McClure also took part and finished first in the V55 category in a time of  20:49 and 26th position overall.

Born 2 Run Rossmore 10k

Also on Saturday another installment of the Born 2 Run series took place in the scenic Rossmore Forest. Padraigin Bingham was the sole representative from the club completing the course in 1:17:57 to finish in 293rd position overall.
