Firmus Energy Meet 2 & Bangor AC Track Event 1

On a bright thursday evening at mary peters track was the Firmus Energy meeting 2 hosted by lagan Valley. This series gives young athletes across Northern Ireland a chance to compete in track events.

In the mini boys 600 meters, first home was SEAN NEILAN in 8th place finishing 2.12.64 supported by DANIEL KELLY in 14th place 2.21.48 CALLUM MAGEE was 19th with a time of 2.27.25 next home was JAMES TOAL and NIALL KERR with times of 2.38.01 and 2.40.05 both boys finishing strong in 23/24th places WELL DONE BOYS

Next Event was MINI GIRLS solo competitor from the harriers was ALICIA MCGIVERN running well finishing in 21 place with a time of 29.96

MINI SHOT BOYS/GIRLS in the boys event four boys lined up. 4th place in the event was ZANE MCQUILLAN 4.77m next was CALLUM MAGEE 4.23m in 9th place and NIALL KERR with a throw of 3.93m supported by JAMES TOAL with a throw of  2.74m. In the GIRLS SHOT lining up was ALICIA MCGIVERN throwing very well with a throw of 2.15m. UNDER 15 GIRLS SHOT was CIARA O’RAWE throwing 3.84m in 8th place. Well done boys and girls in trying a new event. The next throwing event was the JAVELIN. In the girls event stepping up to throw first  was the very impressive ELLIE BRADLEY with 13.36m finishing in 3rd place. AIMEE MAGEE and CIARA O’RAWE in 5th and 6th place throwing 7.81/6.66. ELLIE also took 3rd in the shot with a throw of 6.48!!!

UNDER 13 BOYS 200 meters first home in 10th place saw the multi skilled LUKE KELLY powering home in 10th overall and 3rd place in a very competitive heat. ZANE MCQUILLAN was next home in 12th place 32.15 followed by FINTAN MORRIS in 16TH 33.15 supported well by in 17th place was CALLUM MCILORY 33.58. FINTAN MORRIS was 6th in the high jump with 1.15.

UNDER 13 GIRLS 200 METERS IN 16th place with a time of 36.00 was CATRIONA MORRIS and next home was EMER PRIVILEGE in 18th with a time of 37.4.  Next up was the UNDER 15 GIRLS in 15th, 17th and 18th place were REBECCA BELL, CIARA O’RAWE and AIMEE MAGEE with times of 32.42, 35.23 and 36.79. In the longer distance event was the UNDER 15 GIRLS 800 METERS saw the ever improving DOMINIQUE MCALLISTER with a strong finish. DOMINIQUE finished well in 8th place with a great PB performance with a time of 2.51.19.

UNDER 13 BOYS. In a very congested race CALLUM MCILROY showed a very improved run from finishing in 7th place with a pb of 2.43.03 next home was cool hand LUKE KELLY who was  forced to run wide from the gun. LUKE fought his way back to finish well in 8th with time of 2.44.07 followed by CIAN MCGRATH finishing just behind luke in 2.44.89

UNDER 13 GIRLS 800 saw one of the best performances of the evening with LAUREN COX putting on a front running master class, forcing her way to the front. LAUREN got her lead position keeping the gap for the first 400 meters then kicked for home at  the last bend opening up a larger gap with this clinical display.  LAUREN now has two wins out of two with a pb 2.33.52.

UNDER 17 BOYS 800 METERS the ever improving ANDREW MILLIGAN who is improving every training session saw ANDREW put into practice racing under orders from coach Paul McAllister and lead from the front winning in 2.10.56. Well done ANDREW winning his first track event. Next home was MATTHEW MCILROY in 4th place with a time off 2.23.59. Great effort from MATTHEW!

Also competing for the seniors was Conal McCambridge in the 800m coming in 4th with a time of 2.10.92.



In the first event of the of BANGOR AC track series the sprint duo of KATIE  MCCAMBRIDGE and CAITLIN MAGUIRE took part in the 150 METERS FEMALE OPEN. It saw CAITLIN take the lead from the gun. From the bend CAITLIN opened a gap finishing in first place with a impressive time of 18.87 of which has been the fastest time at the female open 150 in recent years  supported well by the ever improving KATIE MCCAMBRIDGE who is improving week in week out finishing  with a time 21.59 well done to both  talented girls .

At the districts track and field events Lauren Cox and Eimear McBrien competed in the 800m, Lauren taking 2nd place with a time of 2.37.1 and Eimear taking 6th in 2.44.1. Caitlin Maguire continued her excellent form this season doing the double with 1st place in 100m & 200m, 12.8secs and 26.76secs respectively. Rebecca Bell took 5th place in the 100m with 14.1. Rebecca Wallace competing in the 1500m took 2nd in 5.24.7 and Ellie Bradley took 6th in the Shot with a distance of 9.29m. The boys were equally as impressive. Kellen Finlay took 3rd in 100m with 13.6 and 1st in the high jump. Andrew Milligan came 2nd in both the 400m & 800m with times of 55secs for 400m and 2.08.7 for 800m. Tony McCambridge claimed 3rd in 1500m with 4.49.2.

SPECIAL MENTION  TO PIARAS MSSHANE winning the his category of first male junior with impressive split times in the NI DUATHLON  race in victoria park this event was a run cycle run event. PIARAS finished ahead of much older Athletes. Trying  different events can only help with impovments well done PIARAS !!!!!!!!
