On Sunday 31 May thousands of athletes took to the streets to participate in the third running of the SSE Walled City Marathon.  Athletes experienced the all-four-seasons-in-a-race, along with great crowd support, with impressive running from the club’s participants on this newly adapted course.  Marty Rae led NBH’s charge in with a placing of 77th in a time of 3.13.44, followed by Jim McCormick in 84th (3.14.49), Gerard McNamara in  159th (3.42.46), Ray Cameron 264th in 3.42.46, Thomas McKinstry (third marathon in five weeks) 546th in 4.03.38 and Jim Clinton (Pacer) in 4.14.37.



Saturday 30 May saw nearly 80 runners take part in the club’s annual Belfast Hills race, held in partnership with Pure Running.  Thankfully the previous week’s weather had changed and it was near perfect running conditions.  NBH’s Neil Carty took the lead and, after a close battle with David McNeilly from Newcastle AC, came home for top spot on the podium in a time of 32.28.  Nat Glenn secured third place on the podium in a time of 33.00 and Simon Reeve closely followed in 4th in 35.01.  For the ladies, Helen Weir put in a sterling performance and crossed the line in 42.55, securing a podium third place 34th overall).  Other NBH participants were: 7th Martin Cox (1st V50) 36.02, 10th Paul Curley 36.29, 11 David Murray 36.32,  37 Jack Carberry 44.08, Trisha Murray in 72nd (1.01.18, Philomena Donaldson (1st V50) edged out daughter Eadaoin in 1.01.37 to 1.02.09, and Jackie Lawlor 76th in 1.05.02.




Race 7 of the Hills & Dales series took place on Thursday 28 May in Loughshannagh with a starting list of over 200 athletes.  Neil Carty finished in 8th place overall (1st in age category) with a time of 43.40.  Great week for Neil!

Podium for McFadden in EAH Forest Trail Series

Race 2 of the EAH trail series took place on Tuesday 26 May.  NBH’s Sarah-Jane McFadden was just pipped by two seconds to second place on the female podium.  Other NBH entrants were David Murray, 13th in 20.59, Ian O’Neill, 16th in 21.12, John Murphy, 22nd in 21.59 and Colin Simpson, 28th in 22.23.

Sean Furey Insurance 5k Buncrana

Two runners from the club took part in this fast-paced race on Wednesday 27 May in Buncrana.  out of the 192 finishers, Mark McKinstry came in in seventh spot in a time of 15.53 (average of 5.07 per mile), and James Wallace in 32nd spot in 17.17 (average 5.35 per mile).
