Irvinestown Lady of the Lake 10k & 5K

On Tuesday over two hundred runners took part in the Lady of the Lake Festival road races in County Fermanagh. North Belfast Harriers were represented by Martin Cox in the 10k and Lauren Cox in the 5k race. Martin was amongst the frontrunners throughout the race but just missed out on a podium place finishing 4th overall and 1st M50 in 38:11. In the 5k, Lauren was also amongst the leading runners and chasing the overall podium places. In an epic tussle for 1st lady Lauren held her nerve taking fourth place overall in 20:20 and topping the Ladies podium by a fraction of a second.

Hill & Dale 2015 Category Positions

On Friday morning, the final overall placings for the 2015 Hill & Dale Series were published. To qualify, an athlete has to run at least 6 of the 11 races in the series. Neil Carty dominated and was unbeaten in the MV45 category and took 4th place overall for the series. Simon Reeve was 5th MV35 and placed 27th overall.


Sea to Sky 10k

On Friday evening in Newcastle, over seven hundred runners took part in the annual Born 2 Run Sea to Sky 10k. In very windy conditions the race started and finished on the promenade in the town and took in some of the forest tracks and trails on the edge of the Mourne Mountains. Several Harriers took on the tough but scenic course and thoroughly earned their post race refreshment. Gerard McNamara crossed the line in 32nd place with 42:50. Tony Reid was amongst a group of runners coming in around the 50 minute mark and finished 180th in 50:19. Almost 5 minutes later Jason Reid finished inside the top 300 with 54:50 for 293rd. Still within the top half of the field Mary Reid placed 322nd with 55:30. A minute late Kevin McCann took 358th in 56:42. Clare Holmes finished comfortably within the hour with 58:39 for 409th. Thomas McKinstry was 444th in 1:00:11, and Padraigin Bingham running as a guide with Tony Barclay finished in 1:15:03.



Kennedy Kane McArthur Festival of Running 2015

On Saturday, nearly three hundred athletes descended on the County Antrim village of Dervock for the annual Kennedy Kane McArthur Festival of Running. The event offered runners the opportunity of racing over 10k and Half Marathon distances.  The latter was also part of the Pure Running Half Marathon Series. In the 10k there was success for North Belfast Harriers with Kent Swann improving on last year’s run placing 3rd in 37:05. Louise Smith finished in 12th place overall in 40:06 which secured 2nd place on the Ladies podium.

In the Half Marathon, Michael Fitzpatrick led the Harriers home in 1:22:42 for 5th place. Martin Cox placed 12th with 1:26:28 picking up 1st M50 for the second time in a week. Roisin Hughes took 2nd place in the Ladies race finishing in 1:30:49 which was also a top 25 place overall. Colin Simpson ran 1:32:18 for 26th place. Mark Shields was 42nd with 1:36:53, Penny Lindsay took an age category win with 1:37:24 as did Janice Plumb with 1:40:58 and Jack Carberry finishing in 66th place also won his age class. Patrick McCambridge crossed the line in 1:47:48 just ahead of Ita McCambridge in 1:49:57. Thomas McKinstry had recovered from Fridays race to finish in 1:57:35 whilst Eamon McCambridge posted 2:01:12 to make the top 150 finishers.

Snowdon International Mountain Race 2015

Also on Saturday, North Belfast Harrier Andrew Annett represented Ireland at the prestigious Snowdon International Mountain race in Wales.  The extremely challenging route will saw competitors cover 10 miles, with 1,085 metres of ascent. Andrew finished in 1:18:54 for 27th place.



Fingal 10k

On Sunday morning  three members of the club took part in the Fingal 10k in the town of Swords just outside of Dublin. The race which is part of the Dublin marathon race series always attracts a huge field with over five thousand taking part this year. The course which is which is very flat offers a runners a perfect chance to set a new personal best and the weather this year was also kind if not a bit windy in the back stretch of the course. First from the club was John Black who finished 9th overall and picked up a new PB with a time of 33:36. John McGuigan who has just returned from injury was next with a time of 36:51 to finish in 51st and Stephen Walker in 38:57 for 121st.

parkrun Results

This week at least 40 Harriers participated in a parkrun, with two new PBs and a some of Harriers on tour taking in the 5k routes of Sligo and Bere Island.
