Comber Cup XC 2015

The ANI XC season started off in great style on Saturday 10 October with a win for Mark McKinstry in the Comber Cup from a field of 198 men.   The event was hosted by Ballydrain Harriers and there was a marked increase in the number of participants, with over 360 taking part in the men’s and ladies’ races, and a great turnout from the club in both.   The 8k men’s race was closely fought for the top spots, with Mark taking first spot in a time of 26.18, just six seconds ahead of his nearest rival.    Other NBH racing were: John Black, 15th (28.30; Neil Carty 23rd (28.47); Kent Swann 32nd (29.16); Marc Jennings 34th (29.26); Nat Glenn 38th (29.25); Simon Reeve 56th (30.36); Lawrence Johnston 62nd (31.01; John Patience (31.13); Philip Donnelly 69th (31.31); Drew Knox 111th (33.27); Mark Shields 125th (34.26); Joe Smith 130th (34.54); Lance Breen 132nd (35.05); Greg McClure 155th (36.47); John Burns 176th (39.21) Thomas McKinstry 192nd (44.09).

In the ladies’ and Vet60+ John McKeag Cup race run over 6k, six female athletes from the club took part in the field of 162 finishers:- Roisin Hughes, 11th in 24.35; Penny Lindsay 16th in 25.04; Janice Plumb 30th in 26.47; Carol Clarke 76th in 30.06; Sandy Carr 112th in 32.30; Lynn McCullough 121st in 33.01; Frankey McGivern 137th in 34.33.

NIMRA results

In the NIMRA series of races, Neil Carty achieved 5th position overall with a score of 30 points, and first in the V45 age category.  Simon Reeve attained 18th position overall.

Adidas Armagh 10 Road Race

Over 300 athletes took part in the annual 10k road race in Armagh on Sunday 11 October.  Louise Smith enjoyed continuing success in the ladies race, coming in second in a time of 1.02.03 (24th overall)  Anne Fitzpatrick also represented the female NBH side, finishing in a time of 1.07.33.  For the men, Brendan Grew put in a spirited performance, finishing 6th overall in a time of 56.32, with John McConnell coming in in 42nd place with a time of 1.04.56.

European Masters Games 2015

The Games took place in Nice between 1-11 October 2015.  In her first international outing, Paula Wallace gained a PB in the 1500m, finishing 4th in her age category in a time of 5.37.90.  In the 10k run Paula finished 10th overall and 4th in her age category in a time of 44.40.  Cathy McCourt took part in the 5000m and gained a second international bronze medal in as many months with a time of 19.51.
