Juniors in action at Waterworks, Santry and Larne

It’s cold, it’s raining, it can only mean one thing…… oh yes, it’s cross country season and the opportunity to get mucked up to your eyeballs. And our Juniors rose to the occasion 🙂

There were five Juniors representing the club at Waterworks parkrun on Saturday 21st November. Jog Belfast had a graduation run that day so there were 269 runners and the atmosphere around the park was buzzing – not even the hail shower could put us off!

First of the five Juniors across the finish line in 8th place was Conor O’Rawe in a time of 19:35. Next up was Eamon Sheridan finishing in 22:07. Third of the Juniors to finish was Niall Armstrong in 22:45. Matthew Carleton ran a great 5k to finish in 24:55, knocking 11seconds off his previous PB. Super running Matthew! The fifth of our Juniors running on Saturday was Piaras McShane finishing in 27:35.

Well done parkrunners!

On Sunday 22nd November several of the young stags were in action at the GloHealth Juvenile Even Age Cross Country Championships in Santry Demesne, Dublin.

Andrew Milligan represented the U18 boys 6k and finished in 62nd place out of 115 competitors with a time of 21:33.

In the U16 boys 4k event Tony McCambridge ran strongly to finish in 41st place out of 142 entrants, contributing points to Antrim’s 9th place in the County Team results.

U14 boys 3k were represented by Fionn Nagle who finished in 98th place out of 154 competitors, again contributing vital points to Antrim’s overall result of 9th place in this category.

Luke Kelly again showed consistent running form to finish in 75th place out of 161 runners in the U12 2k race.

Two stag-ettes represented the club in the U12 and U14 races. Eva Kissenpfennig ran the U12 girls 2k event, finishing in 132nd place out of 149. This result also scored points for Antrim to secure 11th place in the County Team results.

Rebecca Wallace finished 9th out of 160 entrants in the U14 girls 3k race. Her result contributed to Antrim points in the County Teams for 5th place and also secured a 3rd place podium finish for Ulster in the Province Team tally.

Well done to all our Juniors for some great running in Santry 🙂 And a big thank you to the NBH Junior Coaches and support crew travelling to the event.

Sunday 22nd November also welcomed Junior parkrun to Town Park, Larne. There are now three junior parkruns in Northern Ireland – Larne, Portrush and Moira. At Larne, 85 young athletes took part and 1st over the 2k line was Callum McIlroy in 07:53. First place in the first event is always a special achievement to remember 🙂 Well done Callum!

Thanks to Stephen Kelly, Paula Wallace, Waterworks parkrun and Larne Junior parkrun for the photographs.
