Seeley Cup 10k

The annual Seeley 10k road race held on Saturday 29 November was again a sell-out, despite the grim weather forecast.   Over 920 athletes took part in this much-anticipated fast-paced event, which starts on the Ormeau Embankment, taking in three loops of the Ormeau Park.    The rain held off for the first part of the race allowing runners to compete in chilly but otherwise good conditions, but hit back with a vengeance at about the 30 minute mark, producing really horrendous running conditions.  There was a massive turnout from the club, resulting in some great performances and the retention of the Seeley Cup for both the men’s and women’s teams for the third year in a row.    In addition, Gladys Ganiel won the Master’s title in her return to running.   The winning ladies’ team, which consisted of the first three to score, were Gladys, Louise Smith and Marstje Hell.
