Hill and Dale Race Series NIMRA

In race 4 of the popular but specialist Hill & Dale series on Thursday 5th May, Neil Carty was NBH’s solo entrant in the race on the Binnian, the only race in the series with a hilltop finish, finishing in 6th place overall in a time of 37.32 (summit time 25.52).

 Annalong Horseshoe Mountain Race

Just two days after the Binnian run Neil Carty was back in action again at the Annalong Horseshoe mountain race on Saturday 7th May.  This race is classed as long – 13.1 miles – in the championship, where athletes navigate their own course in between set checkpoints.  Almost 100 hardy souls took on this gruelling challenge in very poor conditions, ascending 1,550 metres over the half marathon distance.  Neil finished in a time of 2.41.23 for 13th place.

Holy Family 5k Magherafelt

On Friday 6th May almost 260 athletes gathered in Magherafelt to take on the inaugural running of the Holy Family 5k.  Although billed to be a fast and flat course, it surprised many with a steep almost 1 mile climb at the beginning.  North Belfast Harriers were represented by two Shiels, Vernon and Conor, who put in sterling performances, Vernon just missing out on second spot by one second, finishing 3rd in 17.22, while Conor came in just 40 seconds later in 5th place in 18.02.

Killyclogher 10k (by Martin Cox)

The annual Killyclogher 10k was held on Saturday 7th May at 11.00am outside Omagh in county Tyrone. Over 700 runners took to the surrounding roads of Ballinmullam in a fantastic event which raised money for “Gina Carrigan forget me not fund” and “Run for Enda Organisation”.

Conditions on race day were wet and windy and course was typical Tyrone undulating.

North Belfast Harriers were represented by Cathy Mc Court and Martin Cox. Cathy was second lady home on her comeback and finished in 40th position overall with a time of 41.26.

Martin won M50 class and was 14th overall with a time of 37.13. Martin had a race long battle with local vet Martin Mc Laughlin of Omagh Harriers, for most of race, and won class in last 800m.

Patrick Pearse 5k Dublin

Two athletes from the club, Jackie and Mick Lawlor, travelled down to Dublin to take part in the Patrick Pearse 5k run on Sunday 8th May.  This race, a 100% charity race for St Teresa Obera, was held in St Enda’s Park in Rathfarnham and proved to be a challenging 5k.  380 athletes took part in fine conditions.
