East Antrim Harriers Forest Trail Series, Race 3, Ballyboley Forest, Larne, Co. Antrim

The first male finisher across the line was Matthew Hewitt from East Coast AC (22:53), with Kerry Bamber from Ballymena Runners the first female finisher to cross the line in 29th overall (26:54).

As with the previous events in this series NBH were well represented with a total of twelve runners amongst the near two hundred strong field of competitors.

Paul Horan and Paul Curley continued their run of successes at these races, clinching second place (24:01) and third place (24:16) respectively, giving the club a great presence on the podium. John Patience finished in 21st position (26:29) with John Murphy close behind in 27th (26:48). Colin Simpson finished in 40th (27:57), Paul Williams 64th (30:09) and Peter Reed took 72nd (31:08). Mourne Way Ultra, Marathon, Half & 10km, Mourne Mountains Co. Down.

It seems each week there is some sort of running event based in or around the Mournes and the Saturday past was no exception. This particular series of races offered waymarked routes around the foothills and valleys of the mountain range, over multiple distances, from 10km right up to Ultra Marathon.

mwmThere was a strong showing from NBH across the 10km, half-marathon and marathon distances. In the 10km event Sandy Carr and Lynn Mc Cullough both traversed the route from the Leitrim Lodge area, finishing in 27th (49:51) and 28th (49:51) respectively. The Marathon route headed from Newcastle and scythed through the mountains to the other side at Rostrevor, as if a marathon wasn’t difficult enough… Five NBH took on the challenge, with Martin Rea taking 2nd place (3:31:04), Peter McClelland taking 55th (4:42:34) John Burns finishing in 88th (5:04:16), Thomas McKinstry in 153rd (5:59:25) and Frankey McGivern in 169th (6:52:10).

Two NBH made the trip down to Dublin and were well rewarded for their efforts with fantastic results. Gladys Ganiel won the ladies category clinching 1st female place with a time of 28.36, Gladys was followed close behind by Roisin Hughes who was the 6th female finisher in a time of 31:37.
