Run for Oisin

On Saturday 16 October 127 athletes took to the start line in County Fermanagh in the 10k road race, run for Oisin, set up to raise funds for the Oisin McGrath Foundation.  An associated 5k race was also available.  NBH’s sole senior representative in the 10k race was Martin Cox, competing in spectacular style and finishing in second spot on the podium in a time of 38.44.

EAMS marathon series

On Saturday 16 October the EAMS marathon series continued with the running of the Knockathon.  Veteran Marathoner Frankey McGivern finished 30th in a time of  5.05.56.

Bobby Rea XC, Kilbroney Park

The first event in the NI cross country series took place on Saturday 22 October at Kilbroney Park in Rostrevor, with a huge number of athletes taking part.   After the U10-U18 races had been completed it was the turn of the Bobby Rea.  For females and MenVet60+ there was the 5k route, while the senior men took on 8k.  In a closely fought men’s race, Andrew Annet and John Black finished in the top five , seconds behind those on the podium.  Results:  4 Andrew Annett 27:44; 5 John Black 27:50; 9 Eamon White 28:19; 18 Neil Carty 29:20; 38 James Wallace 31:13; 117 Stephen Kelly 39:20

In the ladies race Paula Wallace finished a very credible 23rd in 23:30; 77 Leeanne Fitzsimons 28:10; 84 Clare Kelly 29:29.

Garmin Mourne Skyline

The Inaugural Garmin Mourne Skyline Mountain Trail race took place on Saturday 22 October from Newcastle, Co Down, with a host of local and international runners taking part in ever-changing weather conditions.  at 9.00 competitors left Newcastle through Donard Park, making their way up the steep and long Granite Trail in torrential rain.  The skies cleared for the runners as they tackled summit after summit in this highly technical race, finally reaching Slieve Donard and facing the everlasting downhill.  Simon Reeve and Gareth Grew were the club members who took part in this demanding and punishing race, finishing in 54th (5.29.29) and 57th (5.34.19) respectively.

Runher Titanic 10K

On Sunday 23 October over 1000 ladies took part in the latest race of the extremely popular Pure Running Runher series, held at the Titanic slipway.  This ladies-only race (with associated 5k) takes in the Titanic quarter, the industrial estate and a brief run through Victoria Park in an out-and-back fashion.  Louise Smith once again triumphed in this race, finishing runner up in a time of 39.07.  Paula Wallace finished 24th in a time of 47.33; Eimear Nugent 58.22; Marilyn Foster 1.10.31 (new PB); Sonia Millar 1.08.22 (new PB); Ruth Anderson 1.04.35; Gemma Lowe 1.05.35; Joan Grieve 59.51; Marguerite Kerr 1.10.33; Una McConnell 46.13; Elaine Crawford 1.00.46 (9 min PB)
