The Summer racing season is into full swing with club members taking on races both near and far. There were some notable victories and great personal achievements all following on from the hours of Spring training. This week, we ran the streets of Buncrana, Banbridge, and Ballyclare as well as Newry, Liverpool and Edinburgh.
Buncrana 5K
Mark McKinstry and Vernon Shiels travelled to County Donegal on Wednesday evening for the 14th staging of the Furey Insurances 5k road race. Mark led from start to finish and crossed the line in 15:08. Vernon also ran an impressive 17:21

Bann 10k
On Wednesday evening, the annual Bann 10k was held in Banbridge. With over four hundred athletes taking part North Belfast Harriers were represented by David Clarke and John Murphy.

Runher Coastal 10k & 5k
Nearly 1,000 ladies raced along the North Down shoreline on Friday evening following the coastal path from Seapark to Crawfordsburn. Several Harriers took on the challenge.

May Fair 10k & 5k
On Saturday, over 400 athletes took part in the annual Mayfair 10k and 5k road races in Ballyclare. Reigning champion Dan Tanui returned to defend his title and Project Africa Athletes took the top three places in the men’s 10k. North Belfast Harrier’s Galdys Ganiel cruised to victory in the ladies race finishing almost 30 seconds clear of second. Andrew Annett was 4th overall .

In the 5k race, North Belfast Harriers were represented by two junior athletes on the podium. Ethan Glenn recorded 17:39 for 2nd whilst Luke Kelly ran well for 3rd in 18:42.
AAI Open Games, Dublin
Conal McCambridge ran 9:16 for 3,000m and Michael McKillop ran 4:16 in the 1,500.
Newry City Marathon
On Sunday morning, North Belfast Harrier’s Louise Smith was the clear winner of the ladies marathon and took fifth place overall with 2:53:26. Gordon Glenn ran an even paced 3:44:12 whilst Frankey McGivern 5:38:38 added another marathon medal to the collection.
Newry City ½ Marathon
John Black claimed a great victory in the Half Marathon posting 1:11:19. North Belfast Harriers also had Eamonn White on the podium with 1:12:21 for 3rd place.
