NBH Harriers Race Report, 5th June – 11th June 2017

Another busy week on the running scene for North Belfast Harriers with more success for club members competing in races around the Province.

 

BALLYMENA RUNNERS FAIRHILL 5 – Mark McKinstry Claims Top Spot

Over 400 runners took part in the Fairhill 5 on Wednesday 7th June. The race saw competitors complete 2 laps of the streets of Ballymena. Mark Mc Kinstry of North Belfast Harriers claimed top spot at his local race for the first time. The Glenwherry man finished in 00:25:03. There was also success for Andrew Annett 00:26:06 and Connor Curran 26:47 who placed four and fifth respectively. First female home was Ballymena Runners Kerry Bamber. Eight North Belfast Harriers competed:-

Mark McKinstry Fairhill 5

CRAIGAVON LAKES 10K and 5 K

The Craigavon Lakes 10k and 5k runs also took place on Wednesday. The route took runners on pathways around the Craigavon Lakes. Nearly 300 people competed in the event with two Harriers finishing, one in each category. John Murphy completed the 10k event in 00:41:06 in the M45 category. Mark Shields finished the 5k race in 00:39:16 in the M50 category.

SPERRIN HARRIERS STUNNERZ ’N RUNNERS 5 MILE ROAD RACE

The 5th annual Stunnerz ‘n Runnerz took place on Saturday 10th June in Magherafelt. The ladies only event saw over 300 runners complete a 5 mile road race. The race was won by Natalie Hall of Acorns AC. North Belfast Harrier Sarah Jane McFadden placed 4th in 00:33:09 in the FO category just 4 seconds behind 3rd placed Julie Murphy of Lagan Valley AC.

ENNISKILLEN 10K – NOVOSCO GRAND PRIX

The Enniskillen 10K took place on Saturday 10th June around the Fermanagh Lakelands. The scenic route was taken on by over 800 runners and a few of the North Belfast Harriers in Matt Shield’s 5-10k group. Results as below:-

Enniskillen 10k

MOURNE WAY HALF MARATHON – Martsje Hell Takes Ladies Top Spot

The Mourne Way Half Marathon also took place on Saturday 10th June. Runners traversed the foothills of the Mourne Mountains before finishing in the scenic Kilbroney Park, Rostrevor. Conditions were tough for the runners following recent heavy rainfall. North Belfast Harrier athlete Martsje Hell continued her excellent form claiming first place in the ladies race in 01:43:42 and 7th place overall.  Congratulations also to fellow Harrier Helen Weir who placed 8th lady overall in 02:00:02.
