NBH Harriers Race Report, 17th July – 23rd July 2017
Another busy and very successful week of summer running for North Belfast Harriers. There was success for club members competing in races around the Province and further afield.
PORTAFERRY GALA 10 MILE ROAD RACE
Over 300 runners took part in the Portaferry 10 mile road race on Tuesday 18th July. Ten North Belfast Harriers took part in the Gala event on what was a gloriously sunny evening. Philip Goss and Edward Cooke took 4th and 5th places respectively. Helen Weir was the first lady home for the Harriers in 56th place overall. Results below:-

DALRIADA 5K and 10K
The scenic village of Glenarm hosted 5K and 10K races on Friday 21st July as part of their annual Dalriada festival. The course saw the 5K runners take on one lap and the 10K runners complete two laps of the picturesque route. North Belfast Harriers had a successful evening with father and son, Nat and Ethan Glenn taking 1st and 2nd place in the 5K event. David Clarke took 3rd place to secure the top three spots for North Belfast Harriers. Young athletes Luke Kelly and Lauren Cox came 10th and 12th overall in this event in 00:20:19 and 00:20:48 respectively. Lauren was second female overall. Well done Lauren!. In the 10K event Kent Swann took second place overall. April Clarke took first place for the ladies in the 10K. Results below:-

Kennedy Kane McArthur Festival of Running – Dervock Half Marathon and 10K
Springwell Runners hosted the Dervock Half Marathon and 10k on 22 July 2017. The races started and finished in the Village of Dervock with Half Marathon runners passing through the famous Dark Hedges. In the Half Marathon event Louise Smith was the first North Belfast Harrier to finish coming 10th overall and claiming first lady home. Martsje Hell was the second female finisher. 7 Harriers took part in total in the Half Marathon. Results below:-

FORD 5K – NEWCASTLE, COUNTY DOWN
Bryansford GAC and Newcastle AC hosted the Ford 5K on Saturday 22nd July. The course was taken on by over 100 runners and consisted of a fast and flat through Newcastle. Harrier Neil Carty was 9th overall in 17:25. The event was won by North Belfast Harriers’ Andrew Annett in 15:24. The first lady home was Mourne Runners’ Laura Graham. Harriers results below:-

SSE AIRTRICITY FINGAL 10K – SWORDS
There was success at the Fingal 10K in Swords for North Belfast Harriers on Sunday 23 July 2017. The event is part of the SSE Airtricity Dublin Race Series. Gladys Ganiel took first place for the ladies in 00:35:33. Lindsay Gordon was the first male Harrier to finish in 6th position overall in 00:32:03. Results below:-

DOUBLE GOLD FOR McKILLOP AT WORLD PARA ATHLETIC CHAMPIONSHIPS
It was double success for North Belfast Harrier Michael McKillop at the World Para Athletic Championships in London this week. The Glengormley athlete was running for Team Ireland and secured gold medals in both the 800m and 1500m final. Michael now has 9 World Championship gold medals.

EILEEN CRILLY MEMORIAL 5K, PORTSALON
Saturday 22 July in Portsalon was the venue for the Eileen Crilly Memorial 5K run. Conal McCambridge won the event for North Belfast Harriers in 00:17:05. Ita McCambridge was the first lady Harrier in 00:21:40. Brendan McCambridge finished in 00:20:01 with Paddy McCambridge close behind in 00:20:42.
