26Extreme Carlingford Half Marathon and 10km

Saturday 10th March 2018
The Half Marathon began in the picturesque village of Carlingford and took in the beautiful surrounds of the Cooley peninsula, Ballagan Point, Mourne Mountains & Carlingford Lough. The race finished in the village. The 10K route was similar to the Half Marathon except it cut off to make the route shorter but the finish route was the same. The route is not classed as hilly although there were a few small hills along the route but nothing major! By all accounts the weather was atrocious and the runners got soaked as they covered the course. All finishers received a medal, and well deserved and very welcome post event refreshments. Among the 494 runners who finished the Half Marathon was a good contingent from North Belfast Harriers. Mark Shiels was the first NBH man home in 1:32:43. Well done, Mark!

Addiction NI 10km

Sunday 11th March 2018
Due to adverse weather conditions, the Belfast City Council cancelled all events taking place at Ormeau Park last weekend. This meant that the Race To Recovery was postponed to Sunday 11th March. This was the 6th Race To Recovery and biggest to date. The focus of the event is the positive outcomes for the 1000’s of people embarking on recovery with the support of Addiction NI, family and friends. Amomg the 136 finshers were mother and daughter Carol and April Clarke. April (FO) finished 17th and completed the 10km course in 00:44:23 whilst Carol (F50) was in 27th position and 00:45:51. What a lovely way to celebrate Mother’s Day. Happy Mother’s Day, Carol.
