Success in the Cross Country continues in the McConnell Shield

NBH RACE REPORT w/e Sunday 4th NOVEMBER 2108

McConnell Shield XC (Saturday 3rd November)
The NBH men took to the road and headed to Sixmilewater Park, Ballyclare to take part in the 84th McConnell Shield, a race organised by East Antrim Harriers. The men, buoyed by their very successful start in the Cross Country Season, continued their successful form with Mark McKinstry picking up his first ever win at this event. This was after a dominant performance, Mark took to the front immediately and relentlessly covered the tough five lap course, crossing the finish line in first place in 25:33. The winning team members were Mark McKinstry, Eamonn White, Kent Swann and Neil Carty. Laurence Johnston was second home and won his age category in the Female and M60 VETS Race. Also receiving age category wins in the Mens Open were Eamonn White (M45) Neill Carty (M50) and David Clarke (55). Carol Clarke was the sole female representative this week in this cross country race.

Belfast Telegraph Run Forest Run (Saturday 3rd November)
Both the 5km and the 10km races started at the Mary Peters Track. The routes covered track, forest trail, country roads, National Trust property of Minnowburn and the banks of the river Lagan. Among the many participants competing in the 10km were a number of our own North Belfast Harriers.

Decathlon 10km Belfast
This race started and finished outside the Decathlon Store at Holywood Exchange and wove its way around the roads close to Belfast City Airport. Among the 448 finishers were many NBH members, many  achieving PBs. Congratulations to all finishers. Paddy McAuley finished in Position 27 in 00:40:46.

EAMS Hallowe’en Frighter(Sunday 4th November)

The annual EAMS Halloween Frightener took place @ 8.30am on Sunday 4th November 2018 from Loughshore, with the route taking in Gideons Green. After running in costume in last week’s Dublin Marathon, our own Robbie Speers resisted the urge to enter into the spirit and run Sunday’s in Hallowe’en dress. He completed the distance in 5 hours 22 minutes which is a PB for him. Well done!

New York City Marathon (Sunday 4th November)
The world’s largest marathon and New York City’s 48th took place on Sunday. Among the 50,000 competitor from around the globe were 2 female athlestes from North Belfast Harriers. Elaine Holmes and Rosy Ryan proudly wore the NBH vest as they crossed the city in perfect running conditions, 13 degrees Celsius, sun and little or no wind. Elaine broke the 4 hour barrier when she crossed the finishing line in 3:57:52. Rosy Ryan completed the 26.2 miles in 7:45:26.

parkrun results (Saturday 3rd November)

Congratulations to Eimear Nugent and to Angela Greenhill who achieved new PBs on Saturday at the Waterworks. It was a big day for the Waterworks parkrun as it was celebrating its 8th birthday. Thanks to NBH member Matt Shields, aka, Mr Parkrun, the Waterworks hosted the very first parkrun in Ireland in November 2010. Ireland now boasts 75 parkruns and 13 junior parkruns.
