National Team Gold at Irish 5k Champs. NI & Ulster Marathon Gold & Bronze. 100 Marathons.
Irish National Road 5k
Saturday saw the running of the inaugural Irish National 5k Championships in Phoenix Park, Dublin. North Belfast Harriers collected team gold with Philip Goss 15:43, Gareth Lyons 16:11, Joe Malone 16:34 and David Clarke 16:58 all placing in the top 30. Gareth and David both placed 2nd in their respective age categories. Carol Clarke also ran 22:16 finishing well up the field of over 1,000 runners.
Belfast City Marathon (NI & Ulster Championship Marathon)
A flatter, faster and further route than previous years, the Belfast marathon moved to a Sunday and there was a record participation. A large number of Harriers took on the race which was also the NI and Ulster Championship Marathon. Gladys Ganiel O’Neill took Championship honours finishing 1st local Female in 2:37:32 and Louise Smith placed 3rd in 2:57:56.
John Mcguigan, Roisin Hughes, Rory Kane, Paddy McAuley and Paul Butcher were all in/around/under the 3 hour mark. For some it was there 1st ever marathon, for Greg McClure it was his 100th. And there were several PBs ran proving that it was a faster Belfast City Marathon in 2019.
