NBH Race Report 13 – 19 May 2019

As the number of hours of daylight increases, so too does the number of races in the calendar. There was running all over the place this week and the yellow vest featured from Foyle Valley to Manchester.

Athletics NI Open Meet (14 May)

On Tuesday, Conor Curran competed in both the 3000m Men and Women and the 110mH race at the Athletics NI Meet. In the 3000m he ran 9:13.21 and in the 110mH he claimed first position with a time of 16.13. Well done.

Wilkie’s 5 Miler (16 May)

Mark McKinstry finished in second place behind Kipsang Gideon in Thursday’s Foyle Valley fixture in a time of 24:39, a great time as the course record is 24mins 24 secs. The course took the usual route along the cycle path by the River Foyle at Brandywell and was flat and fast. Congratulations to Mark.

Les Jones 10K Memorial (17 May)

In its 28th year, this popular race organised in memory of the late athlete and Athletics NI Chairman got underway at Mary Peter’s Track. On Friday night, running conditions were perfect for Stephen Wylie and Gemma McDonald who claimed the top spots. The course took runners out from the track onto the tow path, towards Shaw’s Bridge and finished with the infamous hill finish of Barnett’s Demesne before returning to the finish line back at MPT.   Gareth Lyons from the club finished in second place.

Great Manchester Run (19 May)

Thousands of people took to the streets of Manchester for Sunday’s Simplyhealth Great Manchester Run, some for charity, others for personal challenge. Over two distances of the half marathon in the morning and then the 10K in the afternoon, runners passed by the iconic tourist sites such as the Imperial War Museum and Old Trafford. Gillian Roden finished with a PB time in a time of 59:58. Well done!
