Some very warm running conditions this week didn’t deter or adversely affect the performances of the NBH athletes who took part in track meets, 5Ks and half marathon distances. Well done to all involved!
Ards Half Marathon (28 June)
The 13.1-mile course involved a pretty tough 4-mile ascent up Scrabo Hill on a very hot sunny night. Gareth Lyons secured a podium spot as he finished 2nd overall and in sixth position, Vernon Shiels won the M40 category. Well done to Helen Weir who was third lady home, also taking a well-deserved podium spot! Along with a few others tackling the distance, the club was well represented with three pacers, James Trainor, Paddy McAuley and Paul Williams. Congratulations to all.

NI Masters Track & Field Championships (29 June)
Held at Mary Peters Track on Saturday, a number of athletes competed in the championships. Three podium finishes for Conor Curran (1st), Kent Swann (2nd in M35) and David Clarke (3rd). Superb running from all. Considering Davy ran a PB with a sub 35 in the Newell 10K the night before, this is an even more impressive result. He is now 4th in the UK for his age group. Congratulations!

Parkrun (29 June)
On Saturday morning, many NBH ‘parkrunners’ turned up at their local park or as visitors to 13 different venues. Joe Drain and Jack Carberry (our own Irish marathon champion no less!) celebrated their 100th and 250th parkruns at the Waterworks – a fantastic achievement for both. The club are very proud of you gents!
Well done also to all who achieved PBs this week also; Mark Mcavoy, Christopher Lennon, Alex Reid, Chris O’Donoghue and Philomena Donaldson.
