NBH Race Report Monday 15th July – Sunday 21st July

It was a week of random weather – from 21 degree humid heat one day to torrential rain the next, we didn’t know what to expect from one run to the next.  However, it didn’t stop the harriers turning out in force, from parkruns to marathon distances this week.

Portaferry Gala 10 Mile Race

The Portaferry 10 mile race took place on Tuesday 16^th July.  Runners start off in the town, passing beautiful views along the seafront and finishing back in the town again. The hilly route and humid weather didn’t put the five Harriers off and Gareth Lyons was the second male home with a time of 54:49 and Helen Weir the eighth woman with a time of 01:12:27 – well done folks!  Full results:

Sea to Sky Newcastle

The 8th Annual Sea 2 Sky race was held on Friday 19^th July in Newcastle. The race includes a mix of road and track before heading up through the foothills of the Mournes. Runners experience stunning views over Newcastle, finishing on the promenade.

Five Harriers took part in the 10k race and Gladys Ganiel was the first woman home with a time of 38:41 – well done Gladys!

Tony Barclay race

Located in the historic town of Carrickfergus, the course is a one mile loop around The Mill Ponds and Shaftesbury Park. Runners can run or walk their chosen distance – 5K (3 loops), 10K (6 loops), Half Marathon (13 loops) or Full Marathon (26 loops).  All proceeds from these races go to Tony Barclay, a blind runner who is raising money to buy vision augmented goggles (£2048 was raised). There were no official chip times at the time of the writing the report but the following runners took part:

The McCambridges continued their running tour of Donegal this week, starting with the 5k at Church Hill.  First home was Brendan in 6th place overall and 1st Junior in a time of 18:07, next home was Paddy 2nd M50 in 21:09, next was Catriona in a new PB of 22:07, Ita finished 2nd F50 in a time of 20:29 & then Orla in a time of 22:44.  Well done all!

Danny McDaid 15k

The annual Danny McDaid 15k race took place on Sunday 21st July in Letterkenny.  This unusual distance race takes runners on a rough, hilly first half and then a downhill treat with a two mile rise at the end.  It was a McCambridge family effort again:

Parkrun

North Belfast Harriers were represented in 12 parkruns this weekend.  We had two milestones – Trisha Murray completed her 100^th run and junior Treasa McConnell completed her 10^th run – congratulations to you both!  Congratulations to everyone who got PBs this week and a special mention also goes to Andrew Milligan who set a new course record of 16:22 in Carrickfergus – well done Andrew!
