NBH athletes did not have too far to travel to the main event in the racing calendar this week for the home city’s annual half marathon. The club was well represented both on the course and the podium.
Belfast Half Marathon (Sunday 22 September 2019)
Starting at 9am on the Ormeau embankment, around 5,000 participants took to the 13.1mile route around the city. Firstly, running through the park, participants then headed east, taking in Victoria Park and Queen’s Quay. Then runners headed back in towards the centre, going west up the Falls Road, before going through town for a final time. The largest event to date finished nearby in Ormeau Park. Congratulations to Harrier Gladys Ganiel who claimed second lady home in a superb time of 1:17.21. Also well done to John Black who took third place, only behind Kenyan Gideon Kimosop and Eoin Hughes, who was attempting a father / son Guinness World Record, no less!

Mourne Mountain Marathon
Sandy Carr, accompanied by her sister Gill McLoughlin completed the two day navigational event. This is Ireland’s only two day endurance and navigation event held each year in the beautiful mountains of Mourne. They came 46th in the C Class (6:08.00). Martsje Hell also ran in the D Class.
