The Harriers were spoilt for choice with races this weekend , from Bangor to Donegal, and the cross country spikes were retrieved from the back of the wardrobe ready for a muddy Sunday afternoon in Armagh.
Mad for the Road 5k and 10k Thursday 26th September
Moneyglass and District runners organised this race, starting at Moneyglass community centre. Brian Stewart completed the 10k in 44:25 – well done Brian!
Bangor NI and Ulster 10k Championship race Saturday 28th September
Part of the Novosco 10k Grand Prix race series, the Bangor 10k is fairly flat and fast and starts in Castle Park, taking in Bangor town centre before finishing up in Ward Park. Conan McCaughey placed 3rd, while Gladys Ganiel was the 2nd lady home. The men’s team placed gold while the women placed silver – well done everyone!

EcoTrail Wicklow 45k Saturday 28th September
Starting and finishing on Bray seafront, the scenic route with 1680m of climb traversed mixed terrain across the Little and Great Sugarloaf Mountains, passing through the scenic Killruddery Estate on-route to the Wicklow Way. The journey home began at the foot of the Powerscourt Waterfall (before heading up the trails above it), and returns to Bray Head via Belmont Estate. Simon Reeve completed the race in 4:30:18 and was the first male in the 40 category – well done Simon!
Berlin Marathon Sunday 29th September
As the home of Kipchoge’s amazing world-record of 2:01:39, Berlin Marathon is known to be one of the fastest marathons in the world. Greg McClure finished the marathon in 3:28:01 and Robert Martin finished in 3:23 with a 13 minute pb – well done guys!

Rathfarnham 5k Sunday 29th September
Known as the perfect pb race, the Rathfarnham 5k is a very fast downhill route along the roads in Rathfarnham and Terenure. Three harriers made the journey down, Kent and Carol ran pbs and David Clarke was the 1st male in the 55 category – well done all!

Albertville 5k Road Race Sunday 29th September
Our running neighbours Albertville Harriers celebrated their 100 year anniversary with their annual 5k road race. Starting on Duncrue Road this fast and flat course is the perfect opportunity to chase a PB. Matthew Lavery came 1st and the Harriers excelled across a number of categories, including Conor Curran 1st male 40 and Nat Glenn 1st male 50 – well done all!

TJ McElmeel Cup Sunday 29th September
It was time to embrace the mud again on Sunday as the first cross country race of the season took place in Armagh. This was a first time course for the Harriers and provided a challenging route with a few tricky hills. The men scored maximum points and won the team cup with John Black, Eamon White and Gareth Lyons placing 1st, 2nd and 4th respectively. The women scored 10 points and picked up some team points too. Well done all!
