While other races were postponed or cancelled around the world, North Belfast Harriers continued with their racing this week. From fastest parkruns in Ireland to first finishes, the club enjoyed success on many levels. A mention also to all of the juniors of the club who competed in the recent Irish Schools cross country, most notably Róise Roberts who picked up a superb 4th in the girls Inter race and Matthew Lavery who finished second in the All Ireland’s Inter boys’ race. Huge congratulations to Caoilainn, Max, Róise, Kelvin, Luke and Matthew who will undoubtedly go on to have great running careers.

Atlas Running Shane’s Castle Ultra / Marathon / Half Marathon (7 March)
There were three races on offer on Saturday morning in the picturesque setting of the expansive Shane’s Castle estate. The route had a mixture of forest and farm trails, tarmac and some sections of concrete. The ultra marathon was over 3 laps of 13.1miles, with 2 laps for the marathon and 1 lap for the half. Conditions were mild even with the early start, and though sometimes mucky underfoot and some uneven terrain in parts, conditions were pretty good for running. In the marathon Sandy Carr recorded 3:50:37 mins to take 3rd place in the ladies race; in the ultra Greg McClure took 8th place overall in 6:16:33. Congratulations!

Walled City 10 Miler (7 March)
This is a 10 mile road race on a fast course along the River Foyle and finishing on the track at St Columb’s Park. It’s open to runners of all abilities and is considered a good warm up for Omagh and Larne 1/2 marathons. Excellent times for the six stags who made the trip to the maiden city. A ‘fifth lady’ finish for April Clarke in her first competitive race at this distance and a 90s PB for Rory Kane on his time from last year– Well done!
