Track, Ultra & Mountain Running for North Belfast Harriers

Evening of 5000m races at Magherafelt
reported by Joe Gallagher

One month on from the first race meeting at the Meadowbank Sports Arena, hosted by Tafelta Athletics Club, North Belfast Harriers returned for a rematch. On Wednesday 9th June both clubs competed again over 5k in three separate races. In the first race, three members of the Harriers competed in the over 24 min category. Running for the Harriers for the first time since joining from an athletics club in Colchester, was Kieran Callaghan. Also worth a mention were two runners from our 5k to 10k following group, who were running on the track for the first time. Angela Feighan and Sean Feighan, members of a Harriers running group that might be categorised as recreational, deserve great credit, with Sean finishing third in the race with a time of 24 min 53 sec.
The second race of the evening was for runners in 21 min – 24 min category. The race was competitive, with six of the Harriers finishing in under 22 minutes. Diane Taylor and Una McConnell came in second and third, with times of 21 min 27 sec, and 21 min 28 sec. Returning from injury Chris Callaghan achieved a commendable time of 22 min 46 sec.
