Fibrus East Coast AC Junior XC Series 2022 – 30th January – Larne

A good contingent of our juniors made the relatively short journey up to Larne on Sunday morning for this really well organised event by East Coast AC that was well supported at Larne Grammar School playing fields. It’s the first of a three-event series and this morning certainly served up some great races and more to look forward to.

Mini Boys (2016-2018) – 500m

First up for the Harriers and racing his very first race was 5 year old Fintan Leheny who crossed the line with a huge smile in 4th place. His older brothers will be looking over the shoulders in a few years time.

Minor Girls (2012-2015) – 1028m

Two of our girls ran in this race with Phoebe Reid finishing in 7th place at 5:19 and Rachel Curry coming in 9th at 5:27 – great running girls!

Minor Boys (2012-2015) – 1028m

Pearse Leheny was our only junior in this race and he finished strongly coming in at 7th place at a time of 4:39

Junior Girls (2009-2011) – 1550m

What a finale this race gave us! Cassie Curran was our only junior in this race and for most of the race the leader from the host club was well out in front. However, on the last hill climb Cassie dug in and over the course of the following final 400m, she got within touching distance of the leader. On the final 50m Cassie sprinted for the line and grabbed 1st place with the narrowest of margins! A fantastic run by Cassie showing inspired determination and demonstrating how the training is paying off.

Junior Boys (2009-2011) – 1550m

Three of our boys ran in this race with all of them moving up the field nicely during the race. Cormac Leheny was first home for the club in 4th place at 6:11 quickly followed by his teammates Alex Reid in 9th at 6:25 and Ruarcc Sheridan in 11 at 6:36. A good run by all three boys who were among the youngest in the race.

Senior Boys (2005-2008) – 1550m

Our final junior running at this event was Oran Steele finishing in 10th at 7:40. Another great bit of running  experience for Oran.

District Schools Cross Country Championships

Several of our older juniors were racing this week for their schools at their district qualifiers in Ormeau Park and Coleraine. Holly Collins ran a great race and finished 2nd in her qualifying race in Coleraine while over  in Ormeau Park both Roise Roberts and Luke Kelly won their respective races. Also putting in fantastic efforts and qualifying for the finals were Eoin, Dara, Max, Hugo, Saul, Leah, Orla, Niamh and Anna.

All eyes now on the finals in Mallusk on 9th February. Best of luck in the preparations and great to see so many of our young stags in the finals.
