Highlights of a busy weekend’s racing included winning the NI&Ulster Intermediate Cross Country title, claiming runners up spot in the corresponding Masters event, and an Irish Masters indoor 1500m title for Paul Horan.


NI & Ulster Intermediate/Masters Cross Country (sun 30th jan)

The DUB was the venue on Sunday afternoon for the Intermediate and Masters cross country (team) championships. In the Masters event, with 4 athletes to score, NBH was narrowly pipped to the title by arch rivals Annadale Striders; however the tables were turned in the Intermediate race where our scoring athletes occupied 6 of the top 26 places. And in a closely fought race at the front Andrew Milligan pulled away from the opposition in the latter stages to take the individual Intermediate title. Full results for club athletes were:

Raheny 5m Road Race (sun 30 Jan)

The popular “Raheny 5” made a welcome return on Sunday afternoon and 18 club athletes made the trip to compete, alongside the 3,100 other starters. Although the race turned out to be around 500m ‘long’ as a result of a misplaced turn cone in St Anne’s park, there were nevertheless fine performances from the harriers. The full results were:

Irish masters Indoor 1500m (sun 30 jan)

Paul Horan continued his fine run of form in Athlone on Sunday, racing to take the 1500m Irish Masters Indoors title in a speedy 4:23.51.

 


Born2run Run Forest Run Antrim

The Born2Run Run Forest Run series continued on Saturday with 5k and 10k races at Antrim Castle Gardens. Four harriers competed in the 10k which attracted a field of over 540 athletes and which was mostly on a picturesque off-road route which took in Shane’s Castle and skirted the banks of Lough Neagh. Gladys Ganiel wasn’t hanging about, winning the ladies race with a couple of minutes to spare, and taking 4th place overall. The full results were:

Sperrin Harriers Winter League: Drum Manor 10k (sat 29 jan)

Drum Manor forest, just outside Cookstown, was the venue for the 3rd of the 4 events in this years Sperrin Harriers Winter League series. The 10k route consisted of 2 laps of the forest with an overall ascent of around 170m. Five NBH athletes made the trip, and their results were:
