North Belfast Harriers Junior Report 21-27 March 2022

Its been great this week to drop the kids off to training and its still been bright.  Im sure the coaches will be glad to see the back of those huge floodlights for the summer months. Big thanks to all who help build and dismantleeach training night.

The older kids have been doing some time trails this week.  The purpose of this is to assess their current performance levels and this will be repeated  throughout the training schedule.  They will have recored times for 800/400/200/100m

Not much racing to report on other than Parkruns. At Waterworks on a sunny Saturday morning we had a handful of runners.  First home was Alex Reid with a PB time of 20.16.  Thomas Coy was next through the line in 21.15 hot on the tail of his dad.  Next stag home was Oisin Steele with a PB time 25.37 and its looks like he  just dipped over the line to beat his dad.  Well done Oisin.  Rachel Curry made her debut with a confident run coming through the line in 34.30.  She smiled the entire way round cheered on by her dad and younger brother Max. Phoebe Reid was jogging round with he dad and actually pushed him up a few of the hills coming in bang on 35 minutes.  We also had a bit of Parkrun tourism with Eva McLoughlin clocking an impressive 28.47 at Limavady.

Over then to the Waterworks Junior Parkrun.  Again the sun was out and the times were hot too! First home was Cormac Leheny 7.19 PB chased  by Alex Reid 7.25 PB with a sporting well done handshake at the finish line.  Erin McAuley was flying up the finish straight clocking a 8.51.  Eimear O’Regan stopped the clock at 9.55 with Sadie Sullivan was hot on her heels in 10.28.  Eimear Coy ran a steady pace and finished in 11.15 while Clodagh Fahy Duckett 19.16 finished well up the home straight.

Here’s a date for the dairy.  On Saturday 23rd April the club has organised a track meet at Mary Peters. There will be a number of 5k races  with some of the best fields assembled for quite some time.  I really enjoy taking the kids over and sitting on the hill.  Its a great wee day out and its free! Seamus is one of the main organisors and might even need some help on the day.
