A very busy week for the Harriers, from an ultra-fast 800m to an ultra-long 64kms with a few podium positions along the way.

Fri 1st Jul 2022: World Masters Athletics, Tampere, Finland
Davy Clarke secured yet another podium position for North Belfast Harriers, this time in Tampere, Finland. Located right in the centre of town beside a scenic lake lies Tampere (Ratina) stadium where Davy came second in his age class (M60) covering 800m in an incredible time of 2:14.46.
Davy returned the next day to compete in the 5000m race, this time securing bronze with a time of 17:15.04.
Well done Davy
Fri 1st Jul 2022: Leixlip 5k Road Race 2022
The Leixlip 5k returned as a road race this year. Starting at Louisa Bridge and finishing on Le Chéile AC track, the officially measured course is billed as a good route for a fast time. And so it turned out to be for Conan McCaughey. Conan came second with a chip time of 14:37.
This result secures Conan a place in the NBH records as the second fastest 5k racer.

Sat 2nd Jul 2022: Spelga Skyline
The Spelga Skline race is part of the NIMRA Championship series. The race starts on the track on the lower slopes of Slievenamuck and visits nine summits along the skyline around Spelga Dam: Slievenamuck summit / Butter Mountain; Slieve Meelbeg summit; Slieve Loughshannagh summit; Slieve Muck summit; Slievemoughanmore summit; Pierces Castle summit; Rocky Mountain summit; Hen Mountain summit and Cock Mountain summit.
Covering a distance of 21 Kms with an overall ascent of 1550m, this is an arduous mountain race on open mountains and not for the feint-hearted, so it’s best left to the experts – like Martsje Hell who covered the course in 3:29:31.
Martsje was the second female home. Very well done Martsje.
Sun 3nd Jul 2022: Gullion Way Ultra
Starting and ending in Newry, this route covers a distance of 64 Kms. This is a challenging course which offers a unique experience to run the Gullion Way as part of an organised event. Hills are aplenty and runners are rewarded with amazing mountain views overlooking the Ring of Gullion and the landscape of South Armagh. Along the way runners pass Clontygora Court Grave, Moyry Castle, Killeavy Old Churches, Craigmore Viaduct and Slieve Gullion Forest park. Runners traverse the slopes of Fathom Mountain, Black Mountain, Camlough Mountain and Slieve Gullion (The Ring of Gullion’s highest peak).
Greg McClure completed the course in a time of 8:43:01 finishing in 8th place.
Sun 3nd Jul 2022: The Great Rossa Run 2022
Ardboe in Co. Tyrone is the setting for the Great Rossa Run. Two Harriers made the journey west of the Bann to represent the Harriers. Eamon White was rewarded with 3rd place in the 5k race. A worthwhile journey indeed!
